If you don’t want to read it, you can watch this video.
Let’s go ahead and talk about the camera. We’re going to start of first with the most important part of the camera, which isn’t the camera. This is the lens that gets the blurry background. It’s a Canon EF 50mm, f/1.4 USM. Now it’s a little noisy, so you need a lab mike if you’re going to use it.
Say you have a RODE microphone that goes on top of the camera. If you use this lens and it doesn’t have the ultrasonic motor, you’re going to hear all the whirring and clicking. If you put an extension on the RODE microphone, you won’t hear all that.
As you start buying a lot of equipment, you’ll find a use for a lot of stuff. The thing I use for a Boom microphone was actually to hold the microphone for my podcasts or for my hangouts.
The lens is the most important part of the setup because it gives that nice blurry background which makes it nice. You can get this lens at Amazon.
This is another lens that I use, Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM. The thing about this lens is you can’t do a lot with it. It’s very tight.
This is another lens. This is a Sigma 18-35m F1.8 DC. It is an all-purpose lens. I use this quite a bit. You can do great videos. You can get incredibly crisp shots.
If I use the Canon EF 50mm, you have to have room to operate. This is why photography studios are so big now.
The Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC gives me more flexibility and I can use it all over the house.
The lenses are the most important part of your setup. You can go on EBay or Amazon and get a used camera that will handle these lenses for $200 to $500 or in some cases you can get a new camera for $300 to $600.
Now I’m going to explain why I got the camera. I got the Canon 70D because it has continuous autofocus for video. My primary reason for buying a camera was for video and that is what I use it for most of the time. I think it was $1200. I’m not sure.
If you’re going to do video, it makes a world of difference to have an articulating screen. It makes a huge difference because you get to flip it around and see yourself.
I use my iPhone for driving videos. You can get 10ADPreally clear. On a bright, sunny day, the quality will be amazing.
I’ve also got two C920s. Right now, they are on sale for $50 I believe. That’s what I use for these Google hangouts and these live events. Because for the money, you just can’t beat it.
Now, I’ll talk about lighting. I don’t have the lights on right now. The C920s are what is powering this look.
I’m going through all of this about the camera right now because I’ve started noticing this on YouTube and Facebook. The videos with the best quality stand out.
If you want a high-quality YouTube video and you don’t have a big budget, start with a iPhone. That will get you in the game.
Videos from 2007 aren’t being played anymore. They aren’t being ranked anymore because people aren’t watching them like they used to.
When you are looking on YouTube and see a really good thumbnail or you really see a gorgeous shot from a video that’s super clear, you pick it. It’s getting to the point that you’re going to have to have really good quality videos to get into the game.
You can do it on a budget. I figure you can get yourself a nice DSLA setup and mics and cameras for about $750 just to get started.
The rules for starting a YouTube channel in 2007 are radically different today. Number 1. You can start a YouTube channel. You can have the great channel. You can have great quality. You can do proper SEO. You can have all of these wonderful descriptions in your channel and you can even get someone to transcribe your video and upload it as a file.
You can do all of that and your channel will go nowhere if you do this one thing wrong, and that is pick your niche. Your niche is everything. Your niche will make you or break you. That is the key to starting a successful YouTube channel.
SEO is still very important, but it’s a different kind of SEO. A video that I put up got 200,000 views organically. It had a great thumbnail and a great title. Part of it is, I picked the right search phrase. When someone goes into Google, they’re looking for help. They’re going to put in a certain phrase, and if you don’t have that phrase in the title or a way for Google to index it, they’re not going to find you.
So, your number 1 thing is to pick the proper niche. Your next things to do are to go ahead and be sure you are creating searchable and shareable content.
If you’re going to put yourself in a category, you have to have a message and a game plan. This is very critical to your success.

There’s some confusion about my business consulting so I thought I’d make a short video to give you an idea about what’s going on.
#1 I’m not doing EBay consulting.
#2 No. I don’t do Amazon Consulting.
I’m the guy that believes on having your own website. I’m the guy that believes in using Internet assets to build your stuff, not using someone else’s.
You must have your own internet properties.
What do I do?
I am a strategist. I am a growth person. I do business development strategy.
I create a Road Map to get your from Point A to Point B.
Ask yourself what kind of life do I want. If you don’t want to do lifestyle planning, I don’t want to work with you.
What kind of life do you want?
What kind of hours do you want to work?
Why is that important? It brings your stress level down.
Another part of this is being able to answer where you want to go and what are you doing.
How much money do you want to make?
Let’s talk about the process.
It takes me time to figure out who you are and where you want to be.
How do I get paid? Per hour, per project. If I have to set your business up, I can do an equity split.
