How to Sell on eBay and Crush It in 2017 Like Never Before

We’re going to jump into what you really need to start crushing it on eBay. The first thing you need is to change your attitude. One of the things I see time and time again is people trying to conform eBay to what they want it to be versus dealing with eBay the way it is.

eBay is a third-party platform that doesn’t give a shit about you, your family, your needs, or whether you’re sick or not. It does not care. None of that is relevant.

The second thing you have to do is from day one, you have to treat it like a business, not just a hobby. I’m going to explain how I learned this stuff and some of the things that happened to me that gave me the perspective I have today about eBay and Amazon. I never did eBay alone. We got to $10K, then to $20K in 2001 and 2002.

You’re going to need a team. If you think you’re going to make a million in gross sales by yourself, it’s not going to happen. There’s too much work. Now what kind of team members do you need?

You need a sourcing team. This is one, two or three people who are out looking for stuff at least three to five days a week. Every day their job is to go out and find stuff. You’re listing all of the time. You are always pushing forward.

This is one of the fundamental rules of business. The more offers that you make, the more chances you have to make money. When you post something on eBay, that’s an offer.

You need to bring your sourcing team on one person at a time. Notice I said, team. If you fall into the trap where you do all the listing, your business will take a long time to scale. You want to develop your team and you want to be management. You want to work on your business versus being your business.

Most eBay sellers are the business. They have to do bulk uploads or massive listings if they want to go on vacation. Once you develop a system, a business model and a team, you don’t have to do that.

What you need to do is find a category you feel you can dominate based on your personal resources and your interests. You want everybody looking for that item to find you first. You want to consistently list in that category.

Everyone wants to get into those blazing hot categories where you just list something and it sells immediately. The problem with that situation is that you are going to be facing fierce competition that will drive the prices down and cut your profits.

You’re better off finding unique things that will sell well. For example, we found some pot holders at one point in a storage unit. We did not know how popular they were until we put them on eBay. We got $89 for six of them. At that point, I started looking for them You want to find that type of stuff because it was really unique and most competitors will not take the extra steps necessary to find it. That keeps the price up because your competition is minimal.

The next thing you need is a photo booth. This is supreme. If you have an iPhone 7 which has a really nice camera, you can probably get away with using that. Use the in-depth feature. My suggestion is that you go on eBay or Amazon and buy a used Canon TTI or something like that, then get yourself a 55MM lens, because that lens is for portraits. Next, you want to create a photo booth.

Then you’ll need to rent a warehouse space with 1500 to 2000 square feet. You will grow much faster with a warehouse. With a warehouse, you’re going to start bumping into your “eBay threshold.”

For each type of item that is unique, you want to create a new eBay ID. At one point, I had 12 of them. The reason you want to do that is because if someone is buying a $2K bedroom suite from you, they don’t want to see that you also sell lollipops. When you are selling something expensive, people really get paranoid.

You want to scale up your price points. If you’re staying at $20 and $30 items, it’s going to take a long time to make any real money. It is better to start selling at the $500 or $1000 price point, even though your risk also goes up exponentially.

You’ll need to hire a customer service person next. Over the years I’ve learned this. If someone emails you about something they want to buy, the sooner you can get back to them, the more likely you are to make that sale.

After hiring a customer service person, you need a marketing plan. I’m going to tell you what I did and what will still work. I pushed a lot of traffic from Craigslist to eBay. By having it on eBay, it allowed us to sell it out of the warehouse. By creating this marketing plan, you’ll be able to talk to your customers outside of the eBay platform. Since you’re driving traffic there, you can put those people on the email list.

If you’re selling Levy Jeans and everybody knows you because you dominate that category, you can develop an email list. You can develop a trade-in program on eBay. You are pimping eBay for fun and profit. By using eBay’s power and traffic, you are building a durable business while you put stuff on eBay.

You want to create a new eBay account for each eBay ID. I know it’s easier to have that one shotgun ID and to sell everything you come across, but segmentation will make you more money because you will become an authority. Each ID is linked to a different PayPal account and has a different marketing scheme.

You should set a goal to have no more than 20% of your income come from eBay. With a million dollar per year goal, you use eBay as a ramp up device for your business. eBay is going to limit your accounts in the beginning. By limiting your business revenues to only 20% on eBay, you have options if eBay or PayPal starts holding your money because your business is perceived as risky since you are growing so quickly. You can turn to Craigslist or sell out of your warehouse or from your email list.

If you won’t build teams and hire people, it’s holding you back. Write down an income goal. It needs to be a number that makes you sweat. When you hit that number, you will have self-confidence.

I’ve run across a lot of people who use these types of phrases often, “When I was” or “I planned on” or “When things get better” or “When the time is right.” To me, that is some of the most insipid bullshit on the planet. You can’t wait and procrastinate for too long.

Even when you are forced to wait on something, you have to be in motion towards that end. You can’t just completely sit back and wait and hope and dream. Action is crucial.

I had an expression in my dating life. I said to myself, I’d rather go down in flames than like a little dog with my tail between my legs. There were times I put myself in situations that were uncomfortable where I didn’t feel very confident. Over time, I became comfortable and confident because I kept putting myself out there. I kept putting myself in these situations.

There’s a lesson there. In the beginning when you start out with something new, it’s not going to be cozy and comfortable. Let that shit go. If you’re not uncomfortable, you’re not growing.

Being uncomfortable and putting yourself in situations that force you to grow and excel is a great way for you to become the person you want to be. It’s not going to happen in your comfort zone. It isn’t.

At one point, I had some very bad internal language that was going on. It was crazy. I was going through a transition period adjusting to leaving the storage auction business.

You have to continue to grow. You have to continue to push. I finally told myself during this career transition, “I am not going to talk about what I used to do and what I used to have.” It’s a new year. It’s a new life.

That’s when I started working on different stuff. That’s when things got better. I would say, “I’m currently working on this.” That’s a better conversation. It’s more refreshing. It’s more gratifying. What I’m telling you is, you can’t keep talking about what you used to do in the past after a certain amount of time has gone by.

Now, let’s just get into it. Let’s talk about why you were never going to do it in the first place. There are many people who have grandiose dreams and ideas. They use protective code words or excuses saying things like, “I don’t have enough education.” “I don’t have enough money.” My answer to that is: “Ok. Get the education. Get the money.”

What these people are really saying when they make these excuses is that it is not really important enough to them to make the personal sacrifices necessary. They are never going to do it. These are code words. If someone has been working on getting something up and going for 20 years, they were never going to do it in the first place.

I love the movie Collateral with Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise. There’s this scene where Jamie is talking to Tom Cruise about starting his own limousine company. Tom Cruise looks at him and says, “You were never going to do it in the first place. What’s a lease on a limo, about $425 a month?” It was stunningly true.

Many Americans don’t realize the gifts and the joy they have as an American citizen. They take it for granted. You have people coming from impoverished circumstances and communist regimes who can’t believe the amount of opportunity here. All they have to do is work. Immigrants work hard and start a lot of businesses.

A lot of people will reply to me when I make this point. They say things like, “Glendon, it’s not that simple. They have special programs. They get special money. They get special tax breaks.” I’m going to call bullshit on all that. Even if what they say is true, it does not take away from the amount of hard work required to get their business started. That’s where the argument runs off the road.

With these notions that “I can’t do it,” or “I’m waiting on the right time,” those are all excuses for hiding your fear of failure or in some cases, your fear of success. Failure hurts and success dictates that you do things differently. A lot of people are definitely afraid of change.

Understand, you were never going to do it anyway if the following things happen.

  1. It’s been about ten years since you first had the idea.
  2. You never came up with any goals.
  3. You never took action.
  4. You talk about it more than you do it.

These four indicators mean you were never going to do it. It just sounds good at a party.

I was going through my emails and I came across this email that made really surprised me. The person was very polite. They said I was too much of a salesperson. When I read it, I was really offended because I don’t think I’m enough of a salesman. I think I have so much room to grow as a salesman. The gist of what she said was that she likes a soft sale with a little something to get her interested. But, then she want s to be left alone to think about it and decide whether she wants to buy.

I’ve taken a lot of sales courses and I’ve been involved in deals from $10 to $500,000. If salespeople did not exist, the world would fall apart. The reason I say this is because the biggest problem in the sales transaction is people don’t want to make a decision because they are afraid they will make the wrong decision. In some cases, making a bad decision can have disastrous results. For company representatives, a bad buying decision could mean they lose their job. So, there is a lot of apprehension.

Salespeople are some of the highest paid people in the world. Getting to the core of this video, we are all salespeople. I don’t care what you do or how you do it, you can’t get yourself out of the sales position. You can’t do it.

Instead of being afraid of being a salesperson, embrace it and make yourself better. Believe it or not, when you’re a really good salesperson, you make the end user, the customer feel much better. I’m not saying you should grab rocks and present them as diamonds. I’m saying you should take diamonds and present them in the best light possible.

Now, you may disagree with me about my claim that everyone is a salesperson. I’m going to give you a few examples. One of the biggest sales transactions is when a guy meets a girl. When a guy meets a girl, he is selling himself. That’s the reality. That’s how the world works. People want to know, what can you do for me. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Now, this is a really, really big thing. Everything that you do and everything that you say and wear is marketing collateral material, depending on what you’re trying to sell. All of that stuff matters.

If you are a salesperson, you have to look at everything. You’ll see people in great expensive cars and the car sounds like shit and the tires are bald. When they get out of their car, their clothes aren’t the way they should be because they are living above their means. If you don’t notice all of these things, you can actually spend a lot of time trying to sell the wrong thing to them because they don’t have the money.

I have a friend who dates this chick who is the epitome of that story. She makes decent money, but blows it faster than she gets it. She’s always borrowing money from him. The funny part of this story is she makes twice what he makes, but he manages his money well. That is one of the reasons he will not marry her. Good move.

To get venture capital or customers you have to sell yourself. Even recruiting employees is selling. As a business person, you are always selling.

I have seen companies with horrible products and an excellent sales force survive. I’ve seen companies with great products and a good idea flop because they didn’t have capable salespeople. That’s amazing how that works.

This is something I know is true. If you’re a good to great salesperson, you will always eat. I don’t care what the product is or what the market is, you will always provide for your family. There are brilliant people out there who are unemployed. Think about that for a second.

Just because you don’t want to identify as a salesperson does not mean you’re not one. What it means is you’re an unaware and crappy salesperson. What that means is you’re ineffective and going to crash and burn.

If you write a book or have a product, you’re a salesperson. You can benefit by going to Inc. magazine or Sales.com and just reading a few articles. You should spend a week and immerse yourself in what salespeople do. You will be 1000 times better than you are today. That is the reality.

We are all salespeople and you need to embrace that fact. You need to become the best salesperson and marketer of your product as a way to move forward. I don’t think you have to be a born salesperson to make it happen. I do believe you have to have the energy and the enthusiasm to learn how to be one.

Hustle Camp $0 to $100,000 Breaking the Barrier of Normal

The big struggle is people hustle out of necessity. They don’t hustle for the love of something. It is running away from something like not paying your bills on time or other bad outcomes. That’s what is driving a lot of people and that’s the problem.

There were a few questions people had about Hustle Camp. It’s a 30-day boot camp. It’s very intense. The price is not going up for at least 30 days.

Part of the struggle is a fundamental lack of understanding of how money is made. I’m going to mention something and say something crazy. With this current healthcare thing, you are going to have healthcare professionals laid off in so-called recession proof jobs. Part of that is because a hospital is a very cash intensive business in terms of the properties and the personnel.

If you understand how money works, that outcome makes sense to you. If you don’t understand how money works, you’re saying, “That dude is crazy. Nurses aren’t getting laid off. Police officers aren’t getting laid off. Firemen aren’t getting laid off.”

Let me explain. Once again, there are healthcare and government municipalities that don’t have a performance to profit motive, which means you stay in business even when you aren’t efficient. In the case of hospitals, that profit motive is being hit very hard.

We’ve got this situation where so many people have what I call “blue sky” opinions about how much money is made by Internet gurus and it’s just not true. If you’re struggling to make money, you don’t understand how money is made. That’s the big hurdle. That’s what we’re going to talk about in Hustle Camp.

If you don’t get past that boundary, then all the money you make from a job or a hustle goes to sustain you. There is no money for thriving. I know one of the big searches here on the internet is, “How can I make a lot of money fast.” That’s what people want to know, because they need it. That stuff will perpetually keep you in hustle mode. From that mindset, it’s going to be super, super hard for you to build something sustainable.

Let’s talk about going from $0 – $100,000 and why it’s important. You can’t make $1million until you make $100,000, except in cases of a super rare event such as winning the lottery. That’s the big gap. The first barrier is $0 to $100,000. The second barrier is going from $100,000 to 1 million dollars. Once you cross these two barriers, things become very interesting.

If you’ve never made $100,000, that seems like a lot of money. There are many couples who make $100,000 who are struggling. If you’re making that income, you are losing $30,000 to $40,000 to taxes right off the top, depending on where they live. That leaves you with $5200 a month. When you factor in health insurance premiums and 401K contributions, your income drops to $4,000. That’s not a lot of money. You have to reframe the way you think about money.

Take a pen and paper and write this down. $100,000 is not a lot of money. We’re going to discuss a path to get you past this point in Hustle Camp. There will be a manual.

This is a path I took. It happened because I was busy. I’ll tell you the story. This was about six months into the storage auction business. I looked at my bank account one day and I had a lot of money in there. I had about $120K in the bank. I remember thinking, that’s nice, but now I need to get back to work.

You’ve got to get that kind of mindset. You have to keep doing the thing that earned you that money so you can continue to make more money. It’s not time to celebrate. That’s the first stage.

I’ve been through that experience of working very hard and not being able to enjoy the fruits of my labor. If you’re trying to outdo your neighbors or look good on Facebook, your tank is running on the wrong fuel. You’re going to run out of that stuff one day and it’s not going to be important to you.

You have to find something that will propel you to get up every day and do the things you need to do. Success is not really complicated. It’s all about doing the same good stuff over and over again.

Because of things that have happened in my life, I have a sense of urgency. After almost dying myself and watching my partner pass away from colon cancer, I realized you don’t have all the time you think you have. If you haven’t experienced these types of events that force you to see life differently you often believe you have all the time in the world.

One of the things you have to understand on your journey is that you’re prepping yourself for something bigger. Earning $100K isn’t the end goal.

I’m building stuff slowly so it can be more evergreen. I’m dealing with the tactics and principles that don’t change. People rarely change. We have evolution, but that’s some slow stuff. If you deal with people the way they are versus how you want them to be, you are going to make more money.

So many people honestly believe they can come online with no experience, no money, and a poor work ethic and make six figures in a snap. That is a very common belief. But, that’s not normal. Typically, it’s going to take two to five years before you get to that point where your business will support you.

I had more mental blocks than talent blocks or opportunity blocks. There were things I didn’t think I could do. I became real about my success. It was a hard transition.

When I was in the boarding house after I got laid off, I was talking to myself. I didn’t like myself. I didn’t like the situation. I didn’t like where I was in the world. The economy was good at the time, but my mental economy wasn’t good.

In high school, they used to teach you how to write up a budget. You would write up all of your expenses and then what was left over was your disposable income. One of the many things causing problems now for people is that the credit ratios have changed, allowing people to get into debt that they can’t realistically afford to repay. The recession is here. It hasn’t grabbed everybody yet, but it’s already here.

This is how you build a business. I think you have to hustle first to get an extra $500 to $3000 per month to help you settle down the turmoil in your life. You are not going to start a business when you are stressed out about bills. It’s not going to happen.

I Am Done - No More Facebook Group for Me

Well, it happened again. Saturday, I started getting messages. I got messages from Nika. She said she couldn’t find the Facebook Group. I got on the Facebook Group, I found it. Then about two hours later, I got more messages about other people who couldn’t find the Group. It was gone.

We just went through the same thing a few weeks ago. I thought perhaps it was a glitch, but it happened in two separate groups. What I assume, is that someone is reporting the group because they don’t like me. That’s a big part of it. I know for a fact that there are some extreme groups on Facebook, so it doesn’t make sense that my group was kicked off.

It’s their platform. It’s their rules, so they can do whatever they want. But, I’m done. I’m not putting any more effort into Facebook Groups or Facebook fan pages. The one that I have – I will keep open for communication purposes.

I’m going back to one of my laws. At some point all third-party platforms behave the same. I mean Facebook didn’t make me money. That’s the thing that drives me crazy because I was doing this for you. I was going to spend money to help you out. But, there are some people who are unhappy and they mess things up for everyone else.

I have more students on HustlersKungFu.com than all my Facebook groups together. I want you to think about that. There was this guy who has about 10,000 members in his Facebook group and that is his sole source of income. That’s scary, because if this was my sole source of income, I would be really screwed right now.

HustlersKungFu.com is going to remain free. Most of the stuff will be free. One of the things I think people are missing is that I don’t teach you to do stuff I’m not doing or haven’t done in the past.

When I got my child support case dismissed, every dude that I know who had a case was looking at me like I was a God. They asked me, “How the fuck did you do that?” I always think about that saying, “Don’t hate the players. Don’t hate the game. Learn the fucking rules so you can win.” That explains a lot.

What I have come to understand is that the only rules and rights that you have are ones you can enforce. If you can’t enforce your rights someway or somehow, they don’t matter. Just because they’re on the books or in the Constitution doesn’t matter. If someone does something that goes against the Constitution and you don’t have the intellectual capabilities and assets to know what you can do and to do it, those rights don’t mean shit to you.

This is why freedom is so important. When you have freedom, you have time. When you have time, you can investigate and meet people who can help you with these things.

I’m going to push a lot of agendas and my personal code of ethics. I’m going to push my philosophy, because right now we’re going through this shift in terms of work, business opportunities and culture.

When you look at the news you see things about “Black Lives Matter.” You see Bernie Sanders’ followers who are disenfranchised. Based on the news, you might think that the biggest problem we have is racism.

It’s not. It’s not even close. I’m not saying that to marginalize the heinous nature of racism. The biggest problem we have is the emergence of several different classes of elite people who don’t need the old system to become wealthy. As long as you need the old system, you’re going to be at the beck and call of this establishment.

The big problem that we have is automation. It’s a curse and a blessing. If you think it’s hard to find a good job now, in five years you will be wishing for that $10 per hr. fast food job.

What I’m trying to do is prepare as many people as possible to become business owners. The automation is going to continue to roll. It’s not going to disappear. As a business owner though, you will be in the position to buy the automation and the software you’ll need for your businesses so you can make money.

By investing in your business, you can have the capital base to play in the future. There are many of you who are trying to get around the hard work. I had someone tell me, “I don’t want to do that.” I didn’t want to say it, but what I was thinking is that’s what’s on the table for you right now.

One of the things I’ve learned from consulting is that a lot of people don’t want to use their strength. I don’t know Facebook marketing. I don’t pretend to know Facebook marketing. I’ve spent maybe $10 or $20 total on Facebook the whole time I’ve been on it. I don’t know anything about it.

There are people who say I should get into Facebook marketing. I have people who want me to become partners or get into multi-level marketing. I don’t know anything about those things. I’m living in my lane. I’m going to stay here because that’s where I make money.

I do stretch myself, but 90% of my efforts are in my lane. My lane is video, video marketing, business development, sales and sales processes. That’s where I’m operating. That’s where I’m hanging out.

I would love to be one of those “gurus.” But, I’m not. Knowing what is coming, I don’t know if I have the time to learn that.

This is what’s going to happen with Facebook marketing. You’re going to have to hire one of those gurus or a team to run your campaigns. Maybe you’ll be one of one of those gurus. It’s going to take a full-time person.

What I am doing right now is working. So, I am sticking with it.

This video is all about going to jail and how being a business owner can land you in jail. This video is about a fucked-up subject. I’ll just get into it.

Many many years ago I was coming home from working on Saturday and I got pulled over by DeKalb County Police. I wasn’t speeding. My license plate was fine. I didn’t even know why he stopped me.

When he pulled me over he said, “There’s a warrant for your arrest in Stone Mountain.” I said, “No, there’s not.”

So, I get arrested and I spend two days in jail. I had the bail money but they wouldn’t take it because Stone Mountain had to take the money. My partner tried to find the cop and pay the cop, but he wouldn’t take the money. On Monday morning, she goes down there and pays them and then they send notification to the jail and I get out. This whole time, I don’t know why I’ve been arrested. I had no tickets or anything, right?

So, a few weeks later, we go to court. It was a real kangaroo court. People had gotten tickets for having their car facing the wrong way on the right side of the street. This was the kind of court it was.

They called my name and I came up to the front of the courtroom. The Judge says, “So what are we here for?” I said, “I don’t know.” Then the code enforcement officer pops up and says, “You failed to pay for your business license.”

I said, “I spent two days in jail for not paying a business license when we moved two years ago?” The courtroom got quiet. The Judge got scared. The code enforcement officer would not even look at me. I said, “We moved and this fool over here was actually in the parking lot when we moved out.”

The Judge said, “Dismissed. You should have put your forwarding address.” Why did I have to put my forwarding address when we didn’t do business there?

The reason I’m telling you this is because I’ve been very successful online. There are many people who are intellectually impotent and unsuccessful. Because I was arrested, I have a fucking mug shot online. People like to point that out.

Just to get ahead of that on this channel, I’ll let you know what the deal is. I got a failure to appear warrant for not renewing a business license for a business that had moved two years earlier. Yeah, I’m still tight about it. It should have never happened.

It took them six weeks to refund my money. This was all about money. This is something that can happen in these little towns. If you start a business in a small town that is dependent on business revenue and taxes, you can have some strange things happen.

As a business owner with a physical location, there are many fucked up things that can happen to you. If you have an office and people are coming in for administrative work, you typically don’t run into these types of problems with office space.

If you’re renting warehouse space, there are many rules. Did you know, depending on your space and where you are, many of those spaces aren’t allowed to be open to the public. You can be breaking laws and not even know it. If you have a physical storefront, there are so many “gotchas” with it.

With my main channel, Hustler’s Kung Fu – I tell people not to open up a physical store. If you’re selling products and you can get around opening a physical store, do a warehouse instead and sell as much as you can online. That’s how my partner and I spent our last three or four years before we got sick.

Sometimes as a business owner you feel like you’re always fighting with the government to make money. That’s how bad it can be. It’s really a sad testament to how business is done in this country.

I’ll give you another thing that happened in DeKalb County, Georgia. One of the things they do is layer on a lot of things you have to do to get a business license. When we were getting our license for the warehouse, the holdup was we didn’t sign up for trash. You had to sign up for trash before you got your license.

If you open up a physical location, you have to rent it before you can do anything else. I know of a friend who had his store set up, he was getting ready to open. He had radio advertising and flyers out. Then the fire marshal comes out and tells him his transaction counter does not comply with the American Disabilities Act. He had to rip that out and build another one before he could open.

So, for those of you out there who are thinking about a physical location, talk to business owners in that area whose doors are open already and ask them what they went through. Don’t listen to the government. They will lie to you.

That’s why I tell people to start small. Hustle. Do not get your LLC and business license. Hustle and get cash flow first. Then when you open in a physical location, you have cash coming in. You know how to make money and you can deal with this stuff.

When you close a physical location, take your cell phone and go down and record yourself turning that license in, just in case you need to prove it in the future. It’s not about right or wrong. It’s about money. These governments are thirsty for money. They are always going to be after you for money.

It’s interesting, but people aren’t really telling you the truth about how they escape being poor. Right now, there are so many people in the world promising $9.99, $29.99, or $59.99 solutions. It’s simply not going to work because there are a few fundamental things you’ve got to change before you can become successful.

One of the main things you must change is how you think. To escape poverty, you must let go of the idea of quick success. So many people ignore good ideas because they aren’t quick enough. You have to get that idea of fast success out of your mind.

One of the things we’re going to do in Hustle Camp is take you on a trajectory where you start now and continue to progress to this time next year, when your life will be better. It’s not going to happen in 30 days. It’s not going to happen in 60 days or 90 days. What will happen in 30 days is you’ll get a set of instructions. What will happen in 60 to 90 days is you will start to build your hustle and your business. You will not get to the point where you can live off your business probably before the end of the year.

What we’re going to do with Hustle Camp is have 10 to 15 minutes sessions daily. More than that can be overwhelming when you’re already consumed with life. That way, if you come into Hustle Camp a week or two late, it won’t take you long to catch up.

There have been people who have made six figures in one month. That is a unicorn. That is an exceptional situation. There are people who win the lottery. So, your chances of going online with no money and making six figures in six months is just as good as your chance of winning the lottery.

It could happen, but it probably won’t. That’s one of the reasons I’m dialing down the rhetoric and going at a slower pace. People are gassed up on making big money really quickly without really working that hard. That’s just not reasonable or normal. If making big money fast was the norm, why are 70% of people in the USA poor or barely getting by.

I designed Hustle Camp for regular people with busy schedules. I know everyone does not have a lot of free time. So, for this course to help you, it needs to come in little nuggets that you can digest and integrate into your life.

We’re going to talk about time management. This is crucial because people have families and jobs and they are trying to develop a hustle on the side. If you do a little every day on your hustle for a year, that effort can easily add an extra $500 to your monthly income. Adding an extra $2000 a month is also  doable. If you do the work, you will get results. While an extra $10,000 a month is on the high side, there will be some people that will do that.

The only time you should quit your job is when your job is costing you money. When your business is doing so well that you are better off quitting your job, then you should quit. But wait until that happens before quitting your job.

Let’s talk about being poor. What is poor? I’m going to give you my definition of being poor. Poor means you have to wait to get paid before you can do something. That’s poor. There are some people who earn six figures who are poor because they have poor money management skills. Being poor is about having bad money management skills.

I encourage everyone to start a savings account to save up $2K to $10K cash that you can get your hands on quickly. That’s your attitude money. It keeps life from disrupting your path.

Another way to escape being poor is to have goals. Setting goals works well. Your goals must be written down. If you write down a goal and it scares you, a lot is happening. You don’t think you can get it and you’re already scared of the disappointment. In your mind, the safest play is not to do anything, which is really, really wrong. A savings account is critical.

Another negative affect that being poor creates is consistent stress. You’re constantly stressed. Increasing your income and managing your money is very important for achieving your future goals.

I’m going to walk you through how I escaped being poor. I didn’t have a job. I was living in the boarding house with crackheads. This was many, many years ago. I had to take those basic steps of managing my money better. I had to make better financial decisions to get out of that situation.

There are paths to escape being poor. You have to educate yourself on the paths that are good for you. That’s one of the first steps. Then, you don’t have to rely on hope. You become more confident.

It is real important for you to segment your money as soon as you get it. Once you start to segment your money, you force discipline on yourself. You create a path to prosperity. It’s that drip, drip, drip stuff that isn’t in your budget that keeps you broke.

If you are poor, you have to ask yourself this question. Why are you poor? If your answer is money, I am going to disagree with you. Once you start to control the way you look at money and you begin to control money, then money doesn’t control you. It frees you up to do so many things.

Question: Is the laptop lifestyle true or a myth?

Answer: Here’s my version of the laptop lifestyle. Pick a business. Work in that business 10, 15 or 20 years. Then, come online and dispense that knowledge. That’s what I did. If I had not worked 12 years selling stuff, I would have no content to make. I would have nothing to talk about.

You must get educated to escape being poor. Self-education works. You have to cram as much as possible into your brain. The world changes fast. You must always continue to self-educate. This is something you will have to continue as long as you live.

You have to be one of those people that reads. One book a week is plenty. You must consistently educate yourself to escape being poor.

When I have something like this, I have to talk about it. Take a second and review this phone message I got. “I’m a huge fan. I take to heart the things you say in your YouTube videos. I purchased some online courses as well. I would love to talk to you.”

That’s good stuff, right? Let me tell you how it went down. We’re not going to use her real name. For the purposes of this blog, we’ll call her Lisa.

Lisa is a hustler. Lisa has a lot of damn energy. She is a stay-at-home mother of three married to a professional. She decided she wanted to contribute more to the family. She had some personal goals and is energetic.

So, she started watching the channel. She’s a fan. She’s also a member of HustlersKungfu.com. Lisa took advantage of the phone calls I put out there.

This is what Lisa did. She went on Craigslist and found one item. She bought that item and rehabbed it. Then she flipped it and made $2500. She is on target to sell 2 of these items a month for a $5K per month income.

What’s so special about this? She learned this from the channel. This isn’t the information she paid for. She actually told me over the phone that she bought those courses as a way to say thank you.

The reason I am talking about this is because there are many people out there waiting for something to happen. They’re looking for a magic jelly bean. They’re looking for an immediate solution for a long-term problem, which is the fact you’re not living how you want to live. You have to take action.

Lisa had watched the videos, and more importantly, she took action. She wanted to do more. When we were talking, there were things that came out.

In the consultative process, many people come to me and say they want a specific result. Typically, as a good consultant, my job is not to give you what you want, but to give you what you need. Because people who are hustling are moving so fast with their head down, they can’t see the things I can see when I take a look at the business from a higher level and a different perspective. I can connect the dots.

Now, how does all this work? Number #1 is you’ve got to do the work. That’s why I shared Lisa’s success story with you. She did the work and she got results. She put in a lot of hours. It didn’t happen in a snap for her. She’s putting in real time five days a week. She’s treating this as an enterprise.

Many of you have hustles that you treat like the side bitch and you wonder why you’re not getting wife returns. You can’t keep treating your hustle like a side bitch and expect full matrimonial returns. It’s not going to happen. You’ve got to treat an enterprise like it’s a priority.

One of the things that happens when people start to change their lives is fear starts to crop up. Self-doubt enters the picture. In Lisa’s case, she has a lot of talent and struggles with too many options. There’s almost too much stuff on her plate.

 

Here’s an idea that comes up every now and then that I need to discuss. People believe they can get everything worthy in life for free on the internet. There is stuff I teach that I know you can’t get on the internet, because I created the shit myself.

For the sake of argument, let’s say you can find anything on the internet. So, you’ve found this info. How has it improved your life? How much action have you taken? This is the true litmus test of the free information packet. Has your life improved month after month, year after year? Financially, have you seen measurable growth that continued?

If it’s free but it doesn’t benefit you or you don’t know how to use it, what’s it worth? One thing I’ve learned as a mentor and an educator is that most folks don’t know how to learn. Most people stop reading after college. They stop learning.

I never stop that process. I continue to learn every day. Every year my life has improved as a result of the new things I learn and apply.

Let’s go back to Lisa’s story for a minute. The main reason she succeeded is because she took action. I love to get feedback like that. When you get somebody that doesn’t know how to learn and they do something and it doesn’t work out, the first thing they do is blame the source instead of looking inward to consider that maybe they didn’t execute properly.

How many times have you heard me say my first book was jacked up. I didn’t blame anybody else. It was me. I didn’t know what I was doing. But I got better and kept pushing myself.

For those of you who want a consultation, this is the criteria. You’ve got to have a viable business going on. You’ve got to have some revenue. If you want to spend the money and talk to me about developing a business. That’s on you. You should know that the floor starts at $6500. That’s the floor and the price goes up from there.

If you’re interested, it’s probably going to take three to twelve talks to figure out what you’re going to do. I’m going to ask you questions like where do you want to be in 10 years.

Everybody is always focused on now. This is what I’ve learned about most people. I’ll teach you how to make your business work for you personally. We create plans and goals and then we create an implementation process to achieve those goals. That first month, we’ll talk quite a bit. It takes time for me to learn your strengths and weaknesses.

Before we get into how to setup your business bank accounts, you need to have an LLC, an S Corp., or a C Corp. before you do this. You also need to be making some money. It’s going to cost you and if you’re not making money, it’s not going to make a lot of sense to you.

Now, this is how you setup your business bank accounts. You need five accounts. The first account will be your merchant debit account. That will be the account where you receive your PayPal funds, Square funds and Merchant account deposits. Any credit card processing goes straight to that account.

Typically, if you sign up with a traditional credit card processor, they’re going to want a hard copy of a business check to verify that you have a business account. If you sign up online, they typically don’t ask for that stuff. Why do you want this account? This account is there only for the purpose of accepting money. That’s it. You’re not getting a debit card. You’re not getting checks. You don’t pay bills out of it. It’s a container of risk.

Limiting the risk is important because if you take credit cards, at some point you are going to have a chargeback. It’s going to happen. It’s not a matter of “if” but it’s a matter of “when.” As long as you have money in that account to cover a chargeback and there isn’t other activity in the account, you can minimize the possibility of bounced checks and extra fees.

The second account you want to setup is your operating account. That is the account you pay your hosting fee from as well as any other related business expenses. You deposit money to pay all operational costs. If you have a physical business and let’s say your monthly nut is $2K to $30K, then that’s the amount of money that goes into your operating account.

The third account you need to setup is an expense account. This account is to pay for things that do not come up all the time. For example, if you need a plane ticket to pay for a business trip to a conference, the money would come from this account.

A fourth account to establish is a savings account. Yes, you will have a savings account. When you have extra money left over, you put it in that account.

The fifth account you will need is a payroll account. Even if you don’t have employees yet, you should go ahead and set it up. Why would you do that? It’s simple. At some point, you want to have employees. You can start saving as soon as you start your business for hiring that first employee. That way, your first payroll doesn’t have to come out of your operating or expense accounts since it is already set aside.

So now, you’ve got your debit account, operation account, expense account, savings account and your payroll account. This is going to cost you nothing depending on your relationship with your bank or it could possibly cost you up to about $500.

Once you set up the accounts, if you need to, you can withdraw the money. You may have to pay monthly maintenance fees. You need to ask your bank some questions before deciding to establish an account with them. “If I set up a business account here, do I get free checking?” A lot of times if you keep a minimum balance in the account, they will not charge fees.

All banks are different, so shop around for the best deal. If you already have a relationship with a bank and you’ve been a good customer, you can talk to the Branch Manager and possibly get those fees waived.

You should know that the Branch Manager can approve credit cards. They can do a lot for you. If the bank isn’t making any money off of you though, they might not be as willing to offer you special services.

The reason I found that out is because I had about a million dollars in a certain bank and the Branch manager pulled me aside one day to tell me about all of the things she could do for me. Once you get some loot in the bank, you will be offered special services.

If you are a brand-new business, setting up your accounts is going to be easier. You should start off by putting 20% of your revenues into each account. That percentage will change with your needs. If you always keep money in the accounts based on this formula, you will always have money. You will never be broke. This system promotes discipline.

As you go through the ebb and flow of your business, you’re going to push as hard as you can to get to 20%. This is the game. This is the magic. So, for example if you make $25K and your expenses are $5K, then you are saving the other $20K and splitting it between the other four accounts. If you do this month after month, you’ll start to experience having more money than you need all of the time.

Let’s talk about payroll accounts. You want to have two to three months of payroll in that account all of the time. That way if you have a shitty month, you don’t have to scramble to make payroll. That way you don’t have to worry about this crucial expense.

The big question is: How do we start a business that is profitable and fun. I’m going to tell you that and more. There are a lot of people who will tell you that starting a business is easy. If you have experience and if you’re connected with a shitload of money, it could be easy. Even if you have all of these things, there are a few things missing.

The truth of the matter is that many of you only want to make a lot of money. Hey, don’t slay the messenger. I’m just giving you the truth. I want you to be successful. I want you to be happy. I want you to make a lot of money and have unprecedented freedom. These are byproducts of creating a business that serves people.

I’ve got to tell you a few things that you don’t want to hear.

#1 – It’s not going to be easy.

#2 – More than likely, it’s not going to be quick.

#3 – You’re going to have to make some sacrifices.

I know. I know. That’s not what you heard on the internet. It’s not what you heard from that guy that said, “I’m giving you 90% of my information for free.” They add, “So, the 10% I charge you for should be outstanding.” It’s none of that. I’m not going to tell you that.

What I’m going to do is give you my story. I’m going to give you the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’ve started 10 businesses and two hustles in my life. The first business sucked ass.

Let me tell you what I did with that first business. I started a photo service. The name was Pictures with your Pooch. It’s a little crazy.

I bought this camera on credit. I was in the military at the time. I put an ad in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. It was expensive. I had a phone in my room at Ft. McPherson and put a phone service in. I was ready to make some money.

Every day after work I would race back to my room to check for messages, I waited and waited and waited. There were never any messages. None.

Now, I’ll tell you about another business. I was in the storage auction business. If you want to investigate my background, go to Amazon.com and put in Glendon Cameron. My books will pop up.

My first book was about storage auctions. I was in that business for ten years. I worked 70 to 100 hour weeks. I often worked seven days a week. The business was phenomenally successful.

When I was on the showroom floor where I sold a lot of my stuff, I would talk to customers. I knew what people wanted to buy. I knew how to move product.

Many of you are where I was when I started that first business, Pictures with your Pooches. Back then, it was all about me making money. I was a young soldier. I didn’t know anything about business. I didn’t know about life. That’s why that business failed.

If I were to start that business today, I would go out and ask pet owners a lot of questions before I started the business. I would ask, “What kind of picture of you and your beloved pet would you want to have?” I would offer pictures for free to build the business. I would make the business all about the customer and their pet. Once I got a format and a system established, then I would go to Wolf Camera and get a new camera. That’s how I would make that business successful if I did it again, knowing what I now know.

Fast forward to my second business. I got into it after having another professional business. I didn’t like it because I was always in debt. If you’ve ever been $20K, $50K or $100K in debt, you know it’s hard to sleep at night.

Some of my distributors made me put down a 50% deposit because I was a new business. When I’d get a big check from a customer for $150K or so, instead of feeling elated, I had to immediately take that money to buy more product. It looked like I was making money, but I wasn’t. I was making other people money. It was still all about me.

I left that business when I got into the storage auction business. I had to learn so much, so fast. It was crazy. I had to learn about collectibles and antiques. I had to learn the laws about selling guns.

I bought units with cars in them with liens still on them. I had to figure out a way to sell those cars. The process entailed sending the lienholder a notice of rent. I was charging them a holding fee because I had their property. After a while, they would just send me the title instead of paying the rent fees.

At that point in my storage auction business, my mindset had changed. It wasn’t all about me anymore. It was about my partner. It was about my product. It was about the customers. I was last on the list. That’s how you create a profitable business.

If you want to make a profitable business, make it all about the marketplace. Make it all about the customers. Your customers don’t care if you have a bad day. The marketplace doesn’t care if your mother has cancer. That’s something you have to deal with in a business.

I built something called HustlersKungFu.com. We create mindsets. I know that jobs as we know it are about to disappear. A good job paying $60-$100K with good benefits are rare. A lot of people are fighting tooth and nail for those jobs.

If you care about the marketplace and people, you can create a business right now. You can sell a product or a service that will make you money. If you do this, you will feel good about yourself and sleep well at night.

That’s how you start a profitable business. That’s how you make money and set yourself apart from everyone else out there who is trying to make a buck. You can do it.

I’ve gotten a lot of phone calls this week. People say they want to do something, but they don’t know what to do. In cases like this, you need to study the marketplace. Figure out what you can provide the marketplace that is needed and requested.

Remember rule #1. The marketplace doesn’t care about you. You have to cater to the customer. If you do that, you can be successful
