I know quite a few women who own a business. I know a lot. Today I was at the establishment of one and I had a little chat with her. I ask her if she thought it was harder for women to own businesses than men. She said without flinching, “No.”

What she said was that frequently it is in the head of the woman that she can’t do it. That’s what she said as a female business owner. We went on to have a very good conversation about a lot of things. This goes back to one of the things I always believe. If you think you can’t do it, you won’t do it.

Another thing she said is, sometimes your family is your worst enemy. They will either break you or make you. Once again, she owns a business and has for a while. She knows the landscape.

She started in real estate when she was 19. She said something else too that I thought was very important that I do agree with. A lot of this training starts early when you’re a kid.

She said we don’t use the word can’t in my house. This is what she is teaching her kids. We use the word “challenge” instead and say things like, “I require assistance?” or “Could you assist me?” I just listened to that and agree that it’s very important. We started talking about internal dialogue.

If you are a woman and you think you can’t start a business, you are 100% correct. If you are a woman and you think you can start a business, once again, you are 100% correct. What’s happening is there are a lot of assumptions being made by people. There are many people settling for bullshit and scraps of life versus doing the hard work so they can have a better life.

You can’t become the person you want to be by being who you are. If being who you are was good enough to get it, you would have what you want already. If you don’t have what you want, being who you are will not lead you to be who you want to be.

You have to change. You have to grow. You have to think differently to change your life.

Essentially, starting a business is not this mythical esoteric thing. It is having a service or a product and creating a transaction where you are paid. That’s it. The other stuff is peripheral. You can make it as simple or as complicated as you want.

That’s the beginning. As it grows, things will change. If you want to grow yourself and build something, it’s going to take a different level of thought. It’s going to take a different level of action and accountability.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there’s no room on this channel for scared little bitches. None. Because if you are a coward, and continue to do things that you know are not right for you and your family and then whine about it, you are stacking bullshit on top of bullshit, and you wonder why your breath stinks.

I’ve looked at some things and I’ve examined a lot of social issues. People will say to me, “I’m just here for business advice.” If you’ve been paying attention, you know you have to know what’s going on in the world. You cannot live in a cave. You can’t be isolated.

I want you to be successful. Based on my journey, I don’t think success is going to come from you playing around on Facebook. It’s not going to come from you thinking about doing something. It’s going to come from you actually doing something.

All of this talk of disadvantaged groups, I think it is harmful. I didn’t think this way all of my life. I want you to be successful. I don’t want you to be at some job having your fucking soul sucked out of your body day by day by day. The Walking Dead is here. You see them. You see them shuffling around in the coffee shop or moving slow in the grocery store because 75% of their soul has been sucked out of them. They are just waiting to die.

You don’t want to be that person. No, you don’t. You shouldn’t be.

Will starting a business be easy? No. It may be the hardest thing you’ve ever done in your fucking life. It may test you on levels you’ve never been tested. At times, that business may kick your ass. It will make a better man or woman out of you. It will give you a new perspective. It will give you a new way of living.

I’m a college dropout. I’m not the smartest person in the room. I just work harder than most people. That’s it. You don’t have to be smart. Talent is overrated. Effort is underrated.

Starting today, I fucking challenge you to work as hard as you can on everything for the next week. Don’t coast on a fucking thing. At the end of that week, see what happens. I can guarantee you your life will be better.

Don’t believe me. Take the challenge. Go through that. If you are a woman please take some soap and wash that nonsense out of your head that you can’t be a business owner.

Today we are going to talk about the basics of building a business. These will work for any business. The basics of business don’t change.

The first basic we are going to discuss is selling a business or product. You are in the sales business. Many people believe if they have a business card that they are a business person. Until you have money coming in, you are not in business. Many people don’t want to hear that.

The first basic is you have to have a product or service and you have to be making some money. Until you do those things it is just mental masturbation. You’re just playing around. There are some people who have been playing around for years.

The second thing is cash flow. If you want to be a successful businessperson, focus on making some money and developing cash flow. Forget about the logo. Forget about the app. Forget about click funnels. Forget about all that stuff. You have to decide if I put this thing out, can I make money.

Let’s say you’re putting this phone out there for $60. That’s called making a direct offer. It can either be through a Craigslist posting, an eBay posting or from your Facebook page. That is the fastest and easiest way for someone with no experience to make money.

If you go to your grandparents’ house and offer to clean out their basement for free if you can have everything they really don’t want and you put that stuff up for sale every day, you’ll make some money. Direct response is the best way to go when you have no experience and you don’t know what you are doing. Pick something and just start making offers and making money.

A lot of people don’t want to do that because it is selling. People don’t want to be a salesperson. They want to put it out there, but they don’t want to talk to anybody. Was that how you got your husband or wife? Is that how you got your job promotion? Is that how you bought your house? Is that how you bought your car? Is that how you graduated from college?

That whole idea that you are going to sit back and let the money come to you is unrealistic. No fortune has ever been built that way. No new nation has ever been established that way. Nothing has been established that way. So, why do you think you’re going to make a lot of money by trying to do that? Seriously, where does this idea come from? You can get some responses, but you don’t get the fast and vigorous responses you would get if you would just stop playing the games. If you want to turn up the heat on your income, you must be very direct. You must be actively going after it.

Question: What were the steps you took to learn to build websites and online marketing? There’s too much noise out there. I’m using WordPress and Gator as my host.

Answer: I learned how to do this stuff from selling junk. Every day I was in the marketplace. I was looking at what people were buying. I was watching my competitors. I had years and years of training in direct response marketing.  

Every day I was writing an ad for Craigslist. Every day I was selling something. Every day I was writing copy for eBay. Every day I was writing copy for Amazon. For years I was putting stuff out in the marketplace to sell it. So, when I came to YouTube and the world of blogging, I did not come in naïve. I inherently knew that people were not going to read my blog if they had no interest. I knew I had to make interesting videos for people to watch them. Many people don’t come in with these expectations and they are all butt hurt and mad when things don’t go well.

WordPress is a tool. Shopify is a tool. YouTube is a tool. Facebook is a tool. You’ve got somebody who can take this cell phone and start making money, because they have moneymaking skill sets. Then you have someone else who can have this office and computers who will go out of business in a week because they have none of these skills. So, what you need to do is learn basic marketing and sales skills, then everything else will fall into place.

Another basic principle of business is you must realize you are in sales. You can’t have the mindset that you are going to settle for what you can get. You have to approach sales from the standpoint that you are going to deliver something of value to your customer. You have to think, I’m going to save them time. I am going to save them money. I’m going to make them happy. I’m going to give them comfort. I’m going to give them luxury.

Another basic is you have to ask for the money. Many people are afraid to ask for the money. If you can’t do this, you will dramatically limit your business.

When you start your business, your business needs more than you do. You must have another source of income. The business income must go back into the business. I know that’s hard to hear.

Do you want to be successful long-term? If you do, you may have to work very hard for two to five years and not make a lot of money on the personal side. I knew someone who was making $2million a month and was living on $100K a year.

Cash flow to your business is oxygen. You have to set your expectations that it will likely take you from two to five years to build your business. You have to keep in mind that before I came to YouTube, I had a decade of success to build on with a lot of 12-hour days.

YouTube was easy because I was working eight to twelve-hour days. It was easy because my perspective about hard work was so different than the average person’s. Sunday is a work day for me.

You have to pick a number to live on. Even if you bring in more money, you should live on that number as you build your business. If you adjust your lifestyle as your income goes up, you’re going to be in a world of hurt when your income goes down.

You know what managing a business encompasses? It is making your customers and employees happy. If you can manage those, you can get rich. It’s hard.

Be careful about what you digest. I’m not talking about politics or anything like that. I’m talking about you. Let me give you a few examples.

Many of you have come across me because of storage auctions. The first day I was on the auction trail, I met this very nice guy named Dan. He’d been out there on the storage auction trail about 20 years. I told him I wanted to make storage auctions a full-time endeavor. He said, “No. Don’t do that to yourself.” He put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Look. Keep it part-time. This business is just going to break your heart. I’ve been trying to make it full-time for 20 years, but I could not let my main gig go.”

He was a plumber. He did contract plumbing work and went to auctions. About a year into it, I was talking to Dan and he said, “You’re really good for a newcomer.”

I said, “Well I try.”

A year after that I had the store and warehouse and he said, “So you came out here with a lot of money?”

I said, “No, I actually started with $1350 from a garage sale.”

He just looked at me. He said, “You’re lying.” He got upset with me.

I said, “I’m not lying to you.”

Let me tell you what Dan’s problem was. When you tell yourself something over and over again that you can’t do something, guess what? You’re not going to do it. Dan had been telling himself for 20 years he could not be a full-time storage auction buyer. When I met Dan, he had 20 years of experience on me.

What was the difference between Dan and me?

Number 1 – I had goals before I even went out there. I didn’t know what storage auctions were about. I’d heard about them, but I didn’t really know. I went out with the expectation to be successful. This is something I learned from one of my sales managers. He said before every sales presentation, tell yourself you’re going to nail it.

Now we live in America where you are supposed to be humble. You’re supposed to be very thankful and happy when shit goes right You’re not supposed to say, “I’m going to go in there and nail this presentation. I’m going to knock their socks off.” You’re not supposed to say that because that’s not humble.

I learned to expect good things. Sometimes you will seriously crash and burn. That’s okay. When you expect things to go well, most of the time they do.

Let’s go back to the storage auction business. I found out Dan started bad mouthing me saying I was arrogant and high and mighty. He said he taught me everything I knew. Then the people who heard him say that said, “If he taught you, why can’t he do what you’re doing?”

I said, “Hey. There’s your answer right there.”

What happened was I created this paradox that made Dan’s belief system start to crash. When it crashed, he had to accept the reality that he did not do the right things. It was a bitter pill to swallow, because for 20 years he’d been telling himself he couldn’t be a full-time storage auction buyer. He made it come true.

Then I came out there and did what he had wanted to do for 20 years in two years. He was not happy with me, because I held up a mirror to his face that said your belief system is flawed. So, we went through that. Bad narratives like what Dan told himself actually crowd out the possibilities.

We’re talking about what you tell yourself. By telling yourself negative things, they crowd out the possibilities. They grow like a cancer and take over your thoughts.

For a long time, I wanted to be a writer. The time was never right for me. I could never sit down and chase my dream. When I got in the storage auction business, it was an adventure. The storage auction business solved that hunger for writing because there were so many narratives out there in each and every unit.

After I got sick and I started healing up, I started writing again. During that period of time, I started networking with other writers. The world of writing is full of people who don’t believe in themselves. I see it every day. I see it in forums. They are conditioning their mind for failure. This is why you have to be very careful what you believe in.

A friend of mine has been published. She’s written about 30 books. She’s a serious deal. This is what she told me after seeing my first manuscript. “You need to take five or six years, work on your craft and then put your work out there.” That’s what she told me. Now, she’s a romance writer and I was writing a business book. People tend to hate things that are not in their genre.

There were many times over my life when I was told I would never be anything. I was from a single parent household. I was one of those kids. There were three of us.

When we were growing up, we were told we wouldn’t do shit because of our circumstances. You can’t believe that. You can’t digest that. It’s a dangerous thing. People want labels and to define you because it makes them comfortable dealing with you. That is probably the reason I am not on TV.

I had five opportunities to be on TV. I just refused to play ball, straight up. I refused to believe in other people’s narratives.

You have to believe in yourself. Whatever wild ass scheme you have in your head, until you try it, you don’t know where it will go. The biggest impediment to your success is not you, it’s the people around you and what they say to you consistently.

In 2009, I told a friend I was going to start a YouTube channel. They asked me, “Why do you want to do YouTube? That shit’s for kids.” I said, “No. It’s a great medium. It’s powerful.”

There were about six people who told me it was a silly idea. Did I listen? I guess not. When you know you are on a good path, you have to have confidence in yourself to move forward.

When someone says something that is highly detrimental to your mental state, you have to say, “That’s not true for me.” I refuse it. You have to make that decision mentally.

I recommend meditation. It is like exercise for the mind. It helped me focus.

Part of keeping your mental playground clean is being diligent about what you let enter your mind. That’s the reason I don’t watch TV a lot. If you watch TV too long, you start to accept narratives that are not true.

You can script your own narrative. Don’t accept what you’re told when it is counter to what you believe. You have a choice.

Your brain is the beginning and the end of your success. You have to get yourself focused on the right things and work hard, then you will be successful.

Having a work ethic and the ability to start and finish projects will take you further in life than all the brilliance and talent in the world.

People are being knocked out of the workforce by technology. Everyone needs to do a personal inventory of their skill sets, personal desires, life path and goals. You need to figure out a plan where you can serve a lot of people. When I say a lot of people, a few hundred to a few thousand works. While a few hundred can give you a good living, a few thousand can make you a millionaire.

You will be paid based on how easy it is to replace you. The easier it is to replace you, the lower your pay will be. I was watching this video this morning about people with great credentials in their 40s and 50s in Silicon Valley and they are in the same position as this woman making $8 per hour for the last ten years. This new economy is no joke.

When I talk about minimum wage, this is where I get called a Republican. Based on what I know, raising the minimum wage is a bad idea. The Golden Rule is, “He who has the gold makes the rules.” That’s never going to change. So, what’s going to happen if these companies are forced to raise the minimum wage, something is going to happen and it’s not going to be good.

It will force these companies to be more efficient. It will force these companies to do more with less. Instead of more money for more workers, it will be more money for a smaller pool of workers. Many people making these policies have never run a business. That is the big problem.

When you’ve had a business and had payroll, you have a different outlook on this stuff. That’s why I can speak this way about it. I’ve been on both sides of the table. I’ve been that $5.25 laborer. I did that shit for two years and it was not fun.

The other side is free will and choice. One of the biggest reasons people are in poverty is because they have no skill sets before they have kids. You can’t compare a female attorney with a child making $70K to $200k with a woman making $8 per hour with a child.

This all goes back to skill sets and ownership of your life. I know people who are doing poorly and people who are doing fantastic. It comes down to mindset and preparation. Remember, I am speaking to you as someone with no degree who grew up in a single parent household. Except for about a three-year period, I was able to rise above my circumstances. During that rough three-year period, I was forced to look at my life and the choices that I made. That’s really where you have to start to make a change.

If you’re trying to get out of poverty, you’re going to have to do something different. You are going to have to gain different skill sets. It’s on you. With the massive debt the country has, it is going to be impossible to sustain the social programs and nets we have today. They’ve already been drastically cut.

With the disruptive economy, this is what is happening. Listen to me. You will have some kid in his basement who is going to create some new technology and disrupt the workforce. People who saved money and who have done all the right things will end up scratching their head because they will lose their job. These people have degrees and experience and believed they would be insulated from layoffs.

This is the reality of what we’re going through. The number of jobs being created are not enough for the population growth. Technology makes things more efficient, but it takes away jobs. The answer for people seeking security is that you need to do an inventory of your personal skill sets and personal desires and figure out a plan where you create a business or service that can serve a lot of people.

Think in those terms. Once again, he who has the gold makes the rules. McDonald’s and Walmart aren’t going to pay higher wages and wreck their profit margin so that they can pay more. Based on what’s coming, the people who have low-wage and low-skill jobs are growing. There are going to be many more of those kinds of jobs. We’ve gone from producers to consumers, as a society.

There is opportunity there. If you become a producer or creator even at a small level, you can significantly change your life. I’ve got people in the group who have done it. I’ve got a guy who hit six figures in personal income after three years in the storage auction game. I think that’s fantastic.

When you want to look for heroes, just go to any immigrant neighborhood and you will see people who don’t speak English. They are new to this country, but they have to eat. Often, they can’t get a job, but they can create one.

You can’t solve problems with the same level of thinking that created the problem. You have to think differently. You have to elevate your thinking. I’m saying this because there are going to many more people who find themselves in this position. It’s not like I have a crystal ball. The dots are just so big, I can see them.

The old path to success in the US still works for a group of people. I met a mechanical engineer who got a scholarship and a good job and he is doing well. He had no student debt. The old system worked for him. He was super smart. If you’re going to go that traditional route, you have to be super smart for that to work.

If you find yourself in a position where you need to make some changes, my advice to you would be to sell everything. I know that sounds really crazy. Take a personal accounting of everything in your house. Sell everything you absolutely don’t need. Get yourself a roommate. Move in with a parent. Don’t move in for free, though.

Start a business and devote yourself to that 100%. Stop dating and hanging out. Put your blinders on and work on your business. That’s the way a lot of really successful companies are created.

The economy is only getting better for a group of people. There are good struggles and bad struggles. If you are building a business and it’s hard, that is a good struggle. If you’re home and hanging out every weekend and when you get a little money the first thing you do is go get drunk, that is a bad struggle.

We need to get down to the definition of what wealth is. I’m going to give you the real deal on what wealth is and is not. Wealth is assets you have that produce more assets. Assets can be cash. Assets can be a building. Assets can be many things.

If you’re wealthy, you have something that creates income. If you don’t have these things that create income, you’re just rich. What is rich? I’ve been doing this research looking for what everyone is looking for. Everyone is looking for how to be rich. They’re not looking for how to develop wealth. There is a big difference between the two.

If you have a lot of money or a high-paying job, or you’re an entertainer or you make movies or something, more than likely, you’re merely rich. You have a talent, skill set or something, where people will just throw a lot of money at you. But, you’re not wealthy.

The thing is, once that talent goes away or you get older or something, you no longer have a way to make a lot of money. Whereas someone who is wealthy, they can be in a wheelchair and still make more money that you do. Right now, I am about to give you the keys to the castle. The fastest way for you to become rich, which gives you the tools to become wealthy is through business ownership.

This means you go out and create a business. You go out and you serve people. You make money three to ten to a hundred times faster than someone with a job. Since you’re making so much money, you have enough to live a good lifestyle, then you can take some more of that money and create tools like real estate, more businesses, and investments so you can become wealthy.

This is how you will make your kids millionaires. The first step is money management. You must manage your money or your money will manage you. The second step is to increase your income. The third step is to get experience.

I know many of you want to jump to step two and forget about step one. I had a conversation with someone this morning about this. If you go ahead and get experience and increase your income and you don’t learn money management, the chances of your kids being wealthy are slim or none because you’re going to blow the money through mismanagement. You may develop an addiction. You may have a lot of nasty things that will happen because of this absolute refusal to put yourself on a budget.

This isn’t about you. This is about the family and generational wealth. If you want to do that, you’ve got to learn money management.

Money management, increasing income and gaining business experience are the tools you need.. You want to be all about business development. One of the things that happens on the internet is that everyone is looking for income for lifestyle which is a very narrow thing.

If you give more than what you’re getting, you’ll get more. Now, what do I mean by that. If you create a business, you hire people, you serve customers, and your footprint of service in the world increases. Your income is going to automatically increase. But if you go after the money and you don’t want to work that hard or do too much, you can still make money. But you’re not going to get wealthy.

You’ll end up as a high-income hustler, which is cool. But at some point, that’s going to get old. Part of business development is finding a market, or there’s something in you that you want to give to people that is valuable and they want to pay you for it.

Business development is figuring out that marketplace and creating processes and systems in your business so it can scale. That takes time. That takes effort.

If you do this, two things happen. One – you learn how to do it. Two – your kids who live in the house with you are learning these lessons. This is what many affluent people have learned. There’s been this person in their life doing these kinds of things and it kind of rubbed off.

But if you’re just out there getting money, partying and hanging out, this tactic will not work if you’re trying to build something that will last. Right now, I’m about to give you the blueprint. The first thing you have to do is money management. The most important thing after money management is skill development. If you have no skills, you cannot build your business. If you have no money management skills and no money, you can’t hire people to build your business.

Once you have some business expertise, you can go out and develop your market. When you have a goal that is much larger than yourself, things change. Your strategy changes. Your business choices change. How you live your life changes.

There is so much training out here on the internet. It works. You can buy a course or an app and apply them and you’ll make money. You can hustle and also have an anchor business. What I mean by that is you have to make some firm decisions about some of the things you want to do in life.

It can’t all be fun and games. It can’t all be about passion. It can be something as simple as a drycleaner. It can be something like a car wash. It can be a grocery store. There are a lot of things you can do. They’re going to require that you think much bigger than yourself, because most of these things take time to take off. One to five years is very fast. Two to five years is more normal.

Once you stack up some assets and you’ve built that business to a level where it doesn’t matter what you do, then you are wealthy. That’s the thing you can do for your kids. You can become a high-income earner, then create the blueprint that will enable your kids to become millionaires.

I got this email that asked me how to stay “up” when your world is falling apart. Essentially this person is getting divorced and is close to 50. Her kids are going to college and she is scared. She needs to know how to reinvent herself.

She is well educated. Education does not always equate to income in this disruptive economy. She has what I call “fluff” degrees. Once upon a time that would get you a job, but not today.

She wanted to know how not to lose her mind during chaos. My answer is, you don’t. You will actually lose your mind. I think many people don’t understand the process of life. Everyone is going through something. Everyone. It could be something small. It could be something life-altering such as a death in the family, terminal illness; all kinds of stuff.

Everyone responds so differently to drama, trauma and devastation. I was not a person who was able to keep my wits about me in the middle of chaos. I actually fell very hard. It took me three years to get back to a sense of normalcy. So, my advice to you is what you’re going through is what you’re going through. You’re going to feel how you’re going to feel.

Now you can take this journey and you can do two things. You can be damned and condemned by it or you can use that energy and build yourself into a stronger person. Everyone isn’t strong.

When you have no core goals or direction, then when something happens you are devastated because there was no stabilizing force there in the first place. Even when you’re feeling fucked and betrayed, you still have a choice to be happy. It’s going to be really, really challenging for you to be happy right now. But, you can make it happen.

You should start a journal. Write down your thoughts every day. Then do this. The next day, you should read your thoughts from the previous day before writing your thoughts down. You’re going to discover that your thinking is not organized because right now you are a hot emotional mess.

There is a group of people who actually perform better under stress, but most people cave. Essentially, you have to learn to control your thought process. Right now, your thought process is controlling you. You are led by emotion. It can lead you into making bad decisions.

Start asking yourself, what can I bring to the world? One of the reasons I stay up now is because I have way more things I can bring to the world. As long as it is only about you and your family, you’re going to have a lot of misery. Your focus is in a very narrow context. It’s extremely narrow.

To get out of that type of rut, you’re going to have to think of someone other than yourself and your kids. You’ve got to have a higher purpose. That is what got me out of my bad spot. I had a higher purpose than myself. I am still working on that and it drives me.

It’s a choice. You have to make choices. You have to learn how to emotionally manage yourself. If something bad happens, you can’t fall apart. When something great happens, you can’t get a crackhead high. You’ve got to really manage yourself because that gives you the resilience you need in life. Shit is going to happen. People are going to come and go. People are going to die and disappoint you. People are going to betray you.

On the other side, people will come into your life that you don’t know and do outrageously good things for you. I know. People focus on the yard birds and the despicable people that come into your life and create disharmony. I concentrate on the people that come into my life and bring me joy.

When you can call yourself on your own bullshit and jacked up thinking, you become a very powerful person. This is where the journaling comes in. When you start seeing the truth about yourself, that’s when you start growing. You can start creating a life of intent and design.

A life of intent and design is one that you choose. You don’t wake up and just do shit you don’t want to do because it is expected of you. I have some issues with some family members because they expected me to do certain things I’m not doing. There were some hurt feelings there and I don’t give a fuck.

A lot of people can’t create the life they want, because they can’t get rid of that kid shit. Many people claim the reason you are the way you are is because of shit that happened to you when you were a kid. It is only true if you accept that as a truth. I decided I wasn’t going to be that person, blaming an absent father I did not know when I have the capacity to grow up and be a happy human being. That’s a choice.

Essentially, you have a lot of work to do on you. Journal today. Get a journal. Start today and write until your fingers hurt. Tomorrow get up and read that shit, then start writing on the second day and the third day. This process will help you cleanse a lot of the emotional discord.

Another suggestion for you is to learn how to meditate. Go take a class. Check out transcendental meditation. You should write, journal and meditate. Set some ambitious goals for yourself.

Understand that happiness is a choice. Sanity is a choice. Peace is a choice. These are things that can be developed over time.

You cannot have the life that you want if you remain the same person that you are. You will have to change as a person. If your life is fucked up. Guess who needs to do a metamorphosis? You.

When you hear about creating a company, invariably you hear about creating an exit strategy. A lot of people plan to create something really quickly, then they want to move the hell on. That’s never really been my strategy. It’s not something I’ve thought about. I’ve thought about the next ten years and the next twenty years and how can I build something long-term.

I think many people are caught up in “ramp up itis” where you want to build something as quickly as possible then sell it or scale it and cash out on the IPO. There’s nothing wrong with that strategy. That’s just not the way I wanted to roll. I think it creates this mania of people who are comparing themselves to unicorns.

I’ve said this before. Most of us are not going to become billionaires. When I say that, people complain that I am not being encouraging and tell me, “You’re not taking care of the tribe. No. I’m taking care of the tribe. I’m telling you the fucking truth.

People are living longer. You see a lot of 80 and 90-year-old people around due to medical advances and the fact people are eating better. So, you’re going to be around for a long time. Why not put together a plan predicated on some sanity.

Are you trying to get rich fast to impress someone or are you trying to get rich fast because you don’t think you’re going to be around? Maybe, you don’t even know what you’re trying to do. What are you trying to do? What are you trying to accomplish? What are you trying to build? What are you trying to create?

I sat down and looked at my goals and my plans and I realized that my behavior contradicted what I was trying to achieve. I was pushing hard and trying to ramp up fast. I’ve never really been like that. I believe in working hard.

As I look back at my behavior and things I’ve said, I just want to ask you, what is your motivation for building a business. What is your motivation? I don’t want to work with anybody with this “Get Rich Quick” mentality.

It’s like working with a kid who wants a cookie. They see the cookies on the counter in the jar. They know the cookies are there. They’re like, “Why can’t I have a cookie?” I answer, “It’s not time to have a cookie.” The kid asks, “Why?” I answer, “Because it’s going to mess up your dinner.” Then when you turn your back, they go in there and get a cookie. Then later on when they’re crying with a belly ache, they asked, “Why didn’t you try to stop me?” Then I reply, “I did, but you didn’t listen.”

Here’s the truth. I’ve said this for years. You are going to be the sum of your daily activities. You’re not going to be the sum of what you did this weekend. You’re not going to be the sum of that one good week. You’re going to be the sum of your daily activities. There’s this book I’m reading that you should get. It’s called The Power of Habit. That book is in line with what I am doing and how I have lived. I wrote a post about it called, Fuck Willpower. Habits are better because habits define you.

If you apply yourself the right way, you are going to build your business. It’s not going to happen in a matter of weeks or months. It’s going to take a few years. That’s the sticking point for many people.

One of the things that I see is going to happen is that many people that have good jobs right now, they’re in trouble and they don’t know it. It’s not because they aren’t working hard or have bad skills sets. It’s happening because technology is pushing on the job market like never before. Many of the things I predicted have happened. I thought some of these things would happen eight or night years from now, but they’re already happening.

In other countries, they have robots that can serve food. That’s going to be a reality here because of the economic benefits to the people that own those companies. It’s just going to be insane. It’s coming. That’s the future.

Part of what contributes to your long-term success and durability is dedicating yourself to something that’s bigger than you. If your main goals are to get a new house and car, that’s really not a lot of motivation. It just really isn’t for me. I’ll speak for myself.

You need to write goals and projects and stuff that are so ambitious that when you write them down it scares you. If your goals don’t make you tremble, they’re too small. If it’s too small, you’re not going to get really far.

Typically, you do what you have to do and if you’re exceptional you do more. I just revised my goals because they were too small. I have five year, ten year, fifteen and twenty-year plans. I wrote down some shit that made me question whether I was insane. It scared me and it also motivated me.

The thing is, I don’t have to do this next month. I don’t have a board of directors to answer to so I can take the time I need.

Everybody is talking about how swamped YouTube is now. It is crowded if you count the mediocre and irrelevant content. There is plenty of room for high-quality evergreen content. So, YouTube is really not tapped out. It’s not even close.

Recently YouTube put out this article that they see great growth in the next decade. I’ll tell you why. You’re going to be able to do stuff on YouTube like you do on Netflix. There is going to be sponsored content and people who create shows. There is all of this wonderful stuff that is coming and if you are in that, “I’ve got to get it now” mindset, you won’t be positioned to take advantage of those future opportunities.

There’s a lot that goes into the equation being the boss of yourself. People like choices on the positive aspect of their lives. I get to pick what work I do. It all starts with being self-reliant or being the boss of you.

No one has to tell you to get up. No one has to tell you that you have to save money. No one has to tell you that you should be doing something constructive and positive with your life.

If you’re truly a boss, you are running your life from A to Z. You’re not just working on the good stuff or the fun shit. That’s what I see a lot of.

I want you to think about something. When was the last time you sat down and took personal inventory of your life and where you want to be and what you should be doing. Have you ever done that? Have you ever said, this is the life that I want to live.

I don’t have what I call celebrity or hero worship syndrome where you see some celebrity and you think they have these awesome lives. Maybe they do. Maybe they don’t. I’m not there. But from what I see, I think a lot of them are living in a glass cage.

You have all this fame. You have all this money and you can’t even go out and eat a simple meal without being harassed. I don’t want that kind of life. Some people may want it. Some people may crave it. I’m not one of those people.

So, when you think about your life, the thing that you are living right now, have you said, “Hey, I want to do this.” One of the reasons I like entrepreneurs and really successful people isn’t because of the money. I often meet people who said, I want that type of life, then they made it happen. They didn’t chase money to chase money. They chased money to fund a lifestyle that they wanted and thought about for a long time.

I have a friend. He has a lake in the back of his house. It wasn’t there when the house was built, but he wanted it. He had one built. It had this very nice garden and all these other things. People say that’s just crazy extravagant. That’s just nuts. I’ve been back there, and it’s just as peaceful as it can be. He created his company to fund the lake and the house. If he wants to run around naked in his backyard, he can, because he doesn’t have any neighbors. He’s on 25 acres.

I want you to think about that. All of the people with mega money all go out and buy their own compound or they have this farm or place where they can get truly away. That’s creating a life of intent. That’s creating a life of purpose.

You can do that if you think you can like a boss. This is the thing. Being a boss is not about money. It’s about accountability. A lot of times when you build a company, in the infant stages everybody is making more money than you, the boss. As a boss, your job is to grow the company, not to get rich off the company or to starve the company taking the cash it needs to grow.

That happens a lot. That’s why a lot of businesses never get that big because the boss is taking the cash out prematurely. You can’t hamstring the company if you want to grow it to a point where you can truly have a great lifestyle. It doesn’t take hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Now, do you want to be the boss of you? Do you really want to be the boss of you? If you do, you can start today by actually taking stock and looking at your life and saying A – we’re going to keep this party rolling or B – it is time for an intervention. That’s being a boss.

When you develop these qualities, people who have not developed these qualities will flock to you. You can do one or two of these things with these people. You can enlighten them or you can exploit them.

Either you are a boss of people or you are a boss. It’s a choice. One of the things a lot of folks don’t understand is there is no middle ground. You may think there is a middle ground, but there’s not.

Being a boss means you will have to do, say and act in a way that makes you very uncomfortable. There is a lot of accountability with being a boss. There is a lot of accountability with being a leader.

I got this email asking me why I didn’t just rely on word of mouth marketing since that’s what the big companies do. I sat there stunned. I really think that one of the reasons that many businesses are not very successful is fallacies and misconceptions. Let’s break this down.

Word of mouth marketing, stealth content marketing and authority marketing are all forms of marketing you can use. You can use one of these or all of these to promote your business.  I’m going to break down the differences.

Let’s say you are a small company and you don’t have any money. You have to depend on word of mouth marketing because you don’t have any money. That’s how it is going down. I think people misperceive what they’re doing.

Let’s say you own a sugar shack and you sell Jimmy’s Sugar. You open up your business with $500. You know your sugar is good, but you don’t have any advertising budget. So, you tell Big Mama. She tells Karl and Karl tells Julie. That’s your word of mouth marketing.

Word of mouth marketing typically has some tiers. If I go to a restaurant and if I wanted to recommend an app to someone I could say, “This is app is really good, you should get it.” That’s a nod in the right direction. They may or may not get it. But if I grab my phone and show them what I think they should do and get excited about it and they download it, that’s effective word of mouth marketing. There’s a big, big difference.

I’ve done that to people. People have done that to me. Not only do they tell you about the app, they tell you why you are stupid not to get that app.  

You have people out there all day saying you should try XYZ. Unless there is some context with that word of mouth marketing, something may happen or it may not. It may happen down the road, possibly. If there is a strong context, then that person is going to take a stronger action.

Let’s go to what I do, stealth content marketing. This is something I’ve done since 2009. I embed Easter eggs and inflammatory statements throughout my videos because I want to know how many people make it to that point. I may do this every ten minutes or so in the video. I’ll see their reaction in the comments. A good way to get someone to remark in the comments is to tell them “not to put it in the comments.” Invariably some people will do it. It’s really crazy.

I’ll give you a good example of something else I do that’s been working well, instead of just saying, hey, I’ve got some stuff below the video, I will show a message instructing them to Click Show More under the video. You have to show people how to find it or they won’t find it. It sounds condescending, but after seven years doing this, I learned that fact.

If you’re just going to rely on word of mouth marketing, it works, but word of mouth marketing with strong content works better. Stealth content marketing works way better. I piss people off on purpose. The thumbs up and thumbs down does not impact your rank. It’s the view time that matters for your ranking.

You can hire a bunch of people to come in and give you a “thumbs up” on your video. That’s the reason YouTube took it out of the algorithm for determining the video’s rank. They know people would play that angle. But, it’s hard to “game” view time. They actually check view time. That is the strongest indicator of a channel’s strength.

When I make a video for one person, it resonates very well, because it’s not talking to just everyone. You know if you go to the bar and you try to talk to 20 different women and all the women see that you’re doing that, they immediately lose interest. They think, “I’m not special.” It’s the same thing online.

Many people start a business on fallacies. If you ask business owners who is the biggest spending block in the country, many don’t know. Now that I’ve thrown that question on the table, I’ll answer it. It’s white women from the age of 14 to 35 years old. The second largest demographic for spending is women. That is who is spending the money. If you start a business and you don’t know these types of facts, you’re operating at a disadvantage. All you have to do is go to the US Census.gov and the information is there.

When you have the demographic numbers, this is where stealth marketing comes in. I have a confession. This channel is for men. A lot of women watch too. There is a reason this channel is for men. There aren’t a great number of channels that cater to men, because they are catering to other people because they think the money is there.

I had to create an experience. You have to know who you are selling to and what they’re buying. You have to know what’s in their mind and heart. I know a lot of dudes want to have financial freedom and choice in their life. That’s really, really big. If you’re a YouTuber, you really need to live in your analytics.

I review my analytics every day. This information is free. Your channel may not grow as large when you have a very specific niche, but your money will grow large because you’re talking to who you need to be talking to. The issues I talk about on this channel are money, building a business, and personal issues you deal with as an entrepreneur, such as your family and romantic relationships. If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re going to go through this stuff.

Knowing what my audience is experiencing gives me great power putting together my shows and products. I don’t put out anything now without testing it. That does drive people a little crazy. I fail like 75% of the time. All of this stuff dovetails into your marketing. When you do your marketing, you have to know how it will impact every part of your business.

Some people put together marketing campaigns that are wildly successful, but their infrastructure can’t handle all the new business. There are literally businesses that have gone out of business, because they got too much business too quickly and their infrastructure wasn’t ready.

If you’re going to be in the world of word of mouth marketing you have to ask yourself some questions. Number 1 – who is your customer? This type of marketing is cheap and it works.

Let’s jump into authority marketing. It’s a whole different beast. This is when someone like Sean Combs or P Diddy can go to a brand and say, “I’m going to throw a party for your brand. How much will you give me?” Then the customer gives them money. They can make deals without making money because they have so much authority.

You can get authority if you work for it. There are many channels right now that are ripe for monetization because they have authority. But, they don’t know how to do it. They worry about offending people when they ask for money. It takes six months to two years to build authority if you just keep working at it and putting out content.

While word of mouth marketing is cheap, it can take a while. What you need is strong word of mouth marketing, content marketing and authority marketing. That’s what will bring you the most money.

Hustling has exploded. The economy has improved, yet hustling is still exploding. Why is that? What’s really going on? Conventional wisdom was always that if people have jobs or the ability to get a job, they wouldn’t hustle. I believe people realize that things have changed. They realize that even if their job is secure right now, that may not be the truth; two, three, four, or five years from now. So, people are hustling because they recognize that they have to.

I have a lot of members of the Hustler Mindset Project who are not poor and who are not interested in storage auctions, but they are really interested in preserving their way of life and also increasing it. Seriously, we’re going to see some fundamental shifts in the way work is performed. The new economy will favor people who like to read, research, learn and learn some more. You’re going to have to be bold and have courage.

You will have to do so many things you aren’t doing now just to stay even in 10 or 15 years. It can be scary. I am excited. I’m extremely, extremely excited about the future. I am blown away by the tools and technology that are coming compared to the things that are already here.

Understand the things that you do related to online commerce are going to get better. I can’t even predict what you will have that will enable you to make money. Right now there is somebody working on some software or technology that will enable you to make more money, if you are in the pool now.

Hustling saved my life. There was a time that if it weren’t for hustling, I would have been really, really poor. I’m talking the “whites of West Virgina” county poor. I’m talking scary poor.

I remember one week where I started off hustling and I only made $150 at the beginning of the week. I kept hustling though and by Friday, I had $1000. I couldn’t do that with a regular job. With a job, it doesn’t matter how hard you work, you will only make what you agreed upon when you took the job. That does not change.

You might get a performance bonus, or if you’re in sales, you might get a Spiff. Only in hustling do you have the ability to increase your income from day to day. The other side of that is you can make absolutely nothing. There are no guarantees.

Guess what? These days, having a job is just as risky as hustling. As I said earlier, there are people who are starting to understand that fact. They’re awake. Their eyes are wide open. They can’t sleep at night because they know what’s coming.

There’s another group who are in denial. They still believe in jobs as the only respectable option. Hustling can still have negative connotations. Hustling saved my life. Hustling is my best friend. Hustling is the reason I am able to talk to you today. There is no negative connotation for me. I’m a hustler. I’m a staunch opportunist. There is no shame in that. This channel was created for me to market my products. I am proud to be a hustler.

I don’t want to have a prestigious job title and chump change salary. That’s what’s going on. People have these titles that sound really good, like you are the Director of Internet Marketing and you make $35K a year. Fancy titles do not pay the bills.

Don’t think that hustling is a bad thing. Jump your ass into the pool. I’m serious. Right now, the water is cold. When the water is warm because of all the bodies in the water, that’s not going to be when you want to get in the pool.

It won’t be a slow march into the pool, there will be a massive number of people jumping in. It is better to be in that pool before everybody else jumps in. Timing is important. You want to beat the herd.

You want to start hustling on some level today. I don’t care if you have a job. I don’t care if you’re fat and happy and just living life, you need to start hustling now.

Let me scare you for a minute. I’ve talked to a lot of people. A lot of people can’t get a raise or they are losing their jobs and can’t find another one to replace their previous income. This is happening for two reasons. The first reason is technology. If your job can be replaced by an algorithm, at some point in time, it will be.

That’s why you need to become a hustler. When you view life as a boss, life becomes totally different. You start seeing the opportunities that come with change and how you can use them, instead of worrying about whether you will have a job tomorrow.

There is a return to consumers wanting quality in the USA. People want quality items. Some manufacturing is coming back to the USA. Why? These other countries are experiencing an improved lifestyle and they are now in the middle class. They are demanding more money now. It is not as cheap as it once was to go to these countries and setup a business.

The ability to call the shots is a benefit of being the boss. So many people working on a job have no power at work. They have few options.

As your own boss, you will be able to control your own future. You will be able to control your destiny and own your destiny. That is why you want to get in the pool.

Here are a few tips to help you avoid the pack and the herd. Number one – you need to get started. If you keep waiting for the perfect time to start, one day there will be no more sand in the hour glass. True hustlers don’t fucking wait. They create the opportunity. You have to become part of the hustling landscape.

Number two – pick something and get started and stay started. Don’t be worried if it doesn’t work out. If it doesn’t work out, you will learn something. My first five businesses were turkeys. I started them when I had a job. I was in the military for most of them. That’s why I am telling you to get started now, while you have a job.

I know so many people who were hustling on the side and then they lost their job and they went to full-time hustling. Most hustlers exceed their job income as soon as they go full-time and put in the effort. It makes sense to have something to transition to.

When you get started and your back is against the wall, it’s a scary, scary proposition. Start now. Failure is not a bad thing. It is just part of life.

You have failed since birth. Think about how you learned to walk. You went from crawling to walking to running. You went for months until you got good at it.

As long as you have forward progression, you will get where you want to go. If you have 20 things you want to do, pick three and start them all. One will emerge as the clear winner.
