Be Different – How to Be Successful in Your Online Business

I thought about why most online businesses fail. The number 1 reason is fear. It’s the biggest reason, hands down. It’s bigger than having no money. It’s bigger than having no talent.

I spend a great deal of time studying people who are starting businesses. I just kind of peek into their mind. Some of these people become wealthy because of circumstances. It’s not that they didn’t work hard too. You can’t duplicate what Microsoft did because of the timing factor. It came around when we were moving into a new revolution of computing.

I have a friend who listened to me. She was a writer. She wanted to write X, Y, and Z. I told her if she wanted to make money, write this; and for your artistic pursuit, write what you want to write. But, write these books to make money. She did it and the money started coming in.

She wrote it. She did not like the subject matter. She uploaded it to Kindle. That book now makes her about $1800 a month. The book that she hates is the one making money.

The book that she loves sells one to two copies every three months. She won’t make $1800 on that book in a few years. It might take ten to twelve years for her to make that much money.

Then she wrote some more books she wasn’t particularly happy with and she lives off that income now. We talked about it. My point is that if you build a business where people already are then you are going to be more successful than in a business where you are expecting them to come. That’s one of the reasons I changed the message of the channel.

The way I see it, due to circumstances and the changing world, more and more of you are going to have to start an online business. There are many of you who are curious about wanting to start an online business. I hear people say that they want an online business, but the people with the burning desire are going to win over the people who are merely curious or forced into it.

Many of you will be forced into it because you won’t be able to find a job. You won’t be able to make the money you want to make where you are living. You’ve got to do something and you are reading all these stories about online success.

I think we are in the infancy of online business creation. The last number was 12% of all business was done online (as of this video made in 2014). That’s going to increase by a lot. You’re going to see new businesses. You’re going to see new niches.

I want you to Google this guy. His name is Andrew McAfee. Check out what he and his partner studied. It will blow your mind, and it may scare you.

The next thing that causes online businesses to fail is lack of effort. Many people have this false thought process that they will come online and make it big very quickly. They think if it doesn’t happen quickly, then it’s a scam. The real question should be, are you hustling hard enough.

I’ve talked to scores of people and the general consensus is that people are unhappy and they want to do something different. They want to build something, but they aren’t willing to put in the necessary effort. You see many people fall by the wayside due to a lack of effort.

I planned to do this video this morning. Then I got in my email and there were a lot of things I had to handle. A lot of people would have blown off doing this video. But, it’s on the schedule, so I’ve got to do it. It doesn’t matter if I feel like doing it. Action points and effort is what gets you over the hump, not talent or luck.

People think I don’t have to work that hard because rich people just got lucky. If that’s the thought that pops into your head, you have a loser mentality before you have even begun. This mindset makes it easy to justify a lack of effort.

Another reason most online businesses fail is because there is no plan. In terms of equipment, you can start your YouTube video with your iPhone. You can make great videos with your iPhone. Part of the effort is to have a plan to upgrade your equipment.

The next reason people fail is because they do not really understand business. People compare their startup to Amazon or Uber where millions were invested. Those companies did not have to make money right away because of the investors’ money. Based on these examples, some business owners say they don’t have to make money right away because Uber and Amazon did not make money immediately. That’s very dangerous thinking. You are going to need a plan and some goals for the future.

A fundamental thing about business is conditions will always change. When YouTube changed the algorithm, then AdSense earnings went down. I was suddenly getting more views and making less money. I saw YouTubers losing their mind. People were mad. That’s just business. When you sign the Terms of Use agreement, this was explained. People don’t understand business.

Not understanding business is a big, big problem for many people coming online. They’re going to provide a product or service that no one wants. A lot of the ideas you come up with aren’t going to work because nobody will give a shit about them. That’s reality.

Another reason people are failing is they have no regard for the fundamentals of business. You’ve got to have someone who will buy your product or service. You’ve got to have something that someone wants.

YouTube has intoxicated people because there are a lot of YouTubers making six figures. Some AdSense checks are $10K, $20K or even $100K a month. You hear about them. These people are unicorns and rainbows. What I am saying is that kind of thing is out of reach for the average person. These people can inspire you to raise your game.

You have a better chance of starting a YouTube channel, a website, a blog, an Instagram account, a Facebook page and having a product or service to sell immediately. This is a more likely way to make a living within 6 to 12 months, then depending on ad revenue.

Whenever I go to someone’s channel, the first thing I do is go to their “About” page and look at when they got started. Then I go to their videos and look at their old videos. This is how I do research.

Back in 2006, there was no Facebook. There was Myspace and YouTube. Some of the kids would put up a video and get literally 1000 subscribers in one day. They would take it to their high school and then it would spread from one high school to another. But now there is crazy competition. That’s part of the reason people fail. They have unrealistic expectations.

Another reason people fail online is they don’t understand the internet. An example of this is how payments online work. When you buy something, it seems so simple. When you go behind the curtain, it is very complex. There are serious security concerns. You can be held liable if you store credit card numbers for your customers and the system is hacked.

Another reason online businesses fail is because people are hoping to “luck into money.”

Different makes you money. Being the same, that is pedestrian. If you are the same, then it becomes about price.

How to Make $3000 A Month, How to Make 10,000 a Month, How to Make $100,000 – I Give the Secret

This is one of the emails I get all the time. I am asked, “How can I make 1k, 4K, 10K a month and not work that hard? And by the way, can you please answer this in a one sentence answer or something like that?”

I’m going to give you an answer. Start a business. That’s an answer. That’s a legitimate answer.

Unless your daddy is rich or you are well-connected, you are going to have to work hard. You are going to have to execute. You are going to have to do things that you currently are not doing to be successful.

I get these emails asking me to tell them what I am doing. They want to know the secret to my success. Okay. I’m going to tell you.

In July 2009, I made a decision to write a book. I drew up a plan and I did nothing else. I told people, I’m a writer. That creates accountability.

I felt like shit because I didn’t have anything yet. When asked, I explained to people, “Well, I’m working on it.” Everyone has heard that story. “I’m working on it.” It was important to me to get the book done and to say, “I am a published writer.”  

I did nothing else. I actually worked myself into the hospital with this process. That’s how hard I was working. I was putting in 12, 18 and 20 hour days. At the time, I couldn’t write that fast. I’d get a headache just staring at the keyboard. That went on for a long time.

I remember one day it took me 13 hours to write 500 words. I’m embarrassed. I can do that in 10 minutes now. It’s a process.

When I say that, people get mad. I’m going to say a lot of people online are full of bullshit. Many people think that I am full of shit.

But unlike some of these other people online, when you Google me, you see books I’ve written. You see articles and 1140 videos. I have a track record. Whether you like me or not, there’s a track record. There are bad reviews and good reviews. There’s something you can research. That goes to the core of what I’m saying here.

There are many people who can’t fathom working that hard. They just can’t. It just doesn’t click.

I devoted myself to one thing for a long time. And now there are many people who want to have a YouTube channel. They want views and subscribers. That’s cool and a worthy goal.

I’m telling you, it’s going to take time. I had someone argue with me because they didn’t understand how YouTube works. All the channels I’ve seen with long term success weren’t doing that on “Day One.”

Gary V put out a video yesterday talking about his first 18 months. Not that many people were watching. He was actually losing money with his regular business to do Wine Library which he believed in so much.

You have people coming online and flashing money. They have a nice home. They have a nice car. They are talking to you about this system where you don’t have to work that hard. They are wrong. You will have to work that hard. You will have to work harder than you’ve ever worked in your life.

Hard work by itself won’t get it done. Hard work is just one piece of the recipe. There is another piece of the recipe which is more important. It is execution.

When you combine hard work and execution, you get crazy results. Looking back at July, 2009, I was working hard. But I was executing harder. Some of that execution fell flat and didn’t work. People laughed at me. People made jokes. I kept executing.

I executed so much that some people couldn’t keep up. People said, “Glendon keeps putting up all of these courses. Why doesn’t he slow down?”

I move fast because the world moves fast. Techniques I was using two years ago don’t work so well anymore. Change is constant in business.

I can’t embrace stories about how to build things from people who started off with a lot of money. It’s not the same challenge. They can’t help you start from nothing, because they’ve never done it. They don’t know about the building process.

The world doesn’t care about you unless you provide value. That’s the reality. How do you get to value? It’s through hard work and execution.

This is the thing. In the beginning, when you are working really hard, it’s probably not going to go the way you want. The trick is not to become demoralized to the point that you can’t continue to execute.

This year I had a lot of failures putting out products and testing them. The reason I test and execute so much, is because I will learn more in a month then if I acted in a more traditional manner and took it slow.

Some of the biggest companies were built as the result of a mistake made. Their main product came from an accident. My $25 Hustle product originated from a conversation and email. I decided to put it out there. I sent out the email and went to the gym. When I came back two and a half hours later, I had 35 sales. I was surprised. Because I was executing and working hard, I found that little gem.

Focus is key. What you focus on, what you build on will become your reality. What you daydream about will become your reality.

There are still many people fighting the race war and completely ignoring the class war. People of all colors, ethnicities, and religious beliefs like to hangout. Rich black folks, rich white folks, rich Jews, rich Arabs – they get along just fine. I’ve been at events and I’ve seen it. It’s a whole different conversation. The real war is class. I’ve seen it and it is going to continue to grow.

I acknowledge that there are barriers to overcome. Anybody who is black, white, male, female, gay, or lesbian can come online and sell a service or their own personality without a gatekeeper. No agent is required. It’s wide open. We’re just in the beginning.

You can fuck up a lot. If you continue to execute, you will overcome your fuckups. But if you fuck up and do nothing, then you are fucked.

It’s going to take you time to build your internet company. It’s going to take 18 to 36 months. It won’t be pretty. It won’t be lovely. But if you continue to execute, you’ll win one day.

Don’t get mired down in politics, race and fuckery. I’ve done it before and it takes the bloom off your rose. It slows you down. It sucks you into mediocrity.

You’ve got to focus and work hard. Working hard includes research and learning from your mistakes. It’s out there. It’s available. You can make it happen and build it.

Digital Pimping Versus Physical Pimping the One Thing You Need for Both

I was googling some stuff and fund that there are not even 2000 billionaires. I also found that there are only 2000 to 3000 people near billionaire status.

So, the Mega Rich people in the world are only 2000 to 4000 people out of 7 billion people plus.

When I was on Craigslist, I sold something every day. Assembled furniture sales faster than unassembled stuff. That is why I always assembled everything for the pictures. I’d take a picture of it put together. I got over 70 phone calls on a mattress because I put it together on the frame for the photo.

The one thing you need for both physical and digital pimping is good pictures and attention.

If you spend two to five minutes more per ad, you will get more attention.

The problem for most folks selling digital products, is they don’t have real world experience to back it up. I’ve been doing this a long time. I had real world experience before I started on YouTube.

I was a Craigslist savant. I was an eBay savant. I was one of the first five people in Atlanta to start selling stuff from storage auctions on Craigslist.

You have to get experience.

When people are selling you courses or information online, that is only the best of the best who do well, the ones they are talking about. Stop looking at the exceptions as the rule. They are making you think you can duplicate these systems.

There was this girl, a graphic designer. She circled back to her clients and made more money using this system. But she already had established clientele. She was a good worker. What happened here is that she went from employee to boss.

Another thing is, if you’re broke and trying to start a business, cash flow is like oxygen to a business. Some service businesses you can start are a lawn service, car wash, housecleaning. Go to Angie’s List and you will see a ton of stuff.

When you are trying to live, and build a business and your living expenses and business expenses are coming from the same plate, someone’s going to go hungry and it’s usually the business. That’s why digital pimping doesn’t work for the average person.

Why I have stages when building a business. You do a service business to support yourself first. Because, if you’re desperate, customers can tell. If you go back to caveman times. Resources were scarce. That’s why you have fat to make it through the hard times.

When someone comes to you from a position of neediness, people reject you. They sense you’re desperate. There’s a psychological reaction to you. It fucks up a lot of your deals. You need to know if I don’t get the deal, I’m not going hungry.

You can’t chase the dream and live the dream at the same time.

If you leave and the client doesn’t buy, you can always go back. Follow-up is important. Use a predetermined plan. Try one call a week. Some deals took me 15/20/30 calls.

Follow-up is the reason so many people don’t make the deal. Follow-up is not one phone call or one text.

You can use Customer Management Relationship {CMR} software and put notes about the client in there for following up later.

The most I would bother someone would be once a week.

When I was fucking up in 2009, my books had typos and I had a merry band of haters, and was getting bad book reviews. But I still made $62,000 in digital in 11 months.

Why was I still making money? Because I had real life experience. Follow-up never ends. If you have CRM, you can sell to someone you’ve sold to before. It is easier to sell to someone again.

It’s like the first time you have sex with your girl, you can’t see her naked. Then after you’ve hit it about 10 or 15 times, she’s walking around the kitchen butt ass naked.

I’ll show you what I used to use as my Customer Relationship Management Software. I used Goldmine. For most of you Excel would work. Goldmine is not cheap and it has a learning curve.

It’s $55 per month. This expense makes sense if you are a durable company.

My advice to you before going online is to become really good at something before you teach it. When I do courses on something, I don’t have to do research because I’ve done it for years.

My stuff is super simple now.

How do I plan my day?

I write it out. I even have a course about it called The Power of Six.

The reason I recommend a service business first over digital sales is because it is hard to do these things if you haven’t done them for a long time. I’ve started many companies. My first five businesses failed. If you learn how to sell and market in the real world and then jump on live, you can do really well.

I sold millions of dollars of physical products first, for a decade. I’ve been selling digital products since 2008. If you try to learn something, just to teach it, your knowledge base is shallow. You will have cracks when you’re really challenged. You’ll be challenged online.

Selling physical stuff is faster than digital pimping.

The hard part of this is marketing it. It is easy to buy. Products are everywhere. Inventory is not a problem. Customers are the problem.

You should build business credit under the business name. If you have business credit developed under a LLC or a corporation, it is like a person. These credit profiles don’t show up on your personal credit.

One of the reasons I push service businesses is because you can start with no money.

To work with me 1 on 1, it is 15K per month. That’s the floor and it goes up from there to $50K.

Seriously, there are a lot of people I don’t like.

Since my lifepath is happiness first, and money second, I would rather work with a handful of kickass people than a bunch of folks I can barely tolerate. If I have four clients a month, it’s a pretty good month.

I’ll probably do some courses and some boot camps.

How do I differ from Hustler Porn?

There’s 1200 videos on this channel. If you’re going to ask a question, do your due diligence. If you did a minute of Googling, you wouldn’t ask that question. You must constantly market, because people are lazy.

If you would go online and pick one thing and research the shit out of it, you’d make money.

Service business work is hard, but if you have no money, it’s the easiest thing to get into.

Can you give me some advice about team and self-branding?

I asked myself, what do I want to do? What am I good at? So…I am going to talk about business on YouTube. Helping people who are helping themselves is working. Focus on what makes you happy.

Find something you like to do and do it better than anyone else.

Talk about Podcasts versus business channels.

Podcasts depends on the audience. A lot of business podcasts do better than business channels. Videos are a show in real time. Podcasts are for busy people. It’s a different audience.

Uncivilized Products is going to be a personal development program including meditation and some “game.” Game is not just for dating, it’s also for sales. I’ll probably have a live session and will accelerate it. I’ll probably have three sessions a day on different topics. It will be a live interaction and recorded. I’ll do it in one week instead of stretching it out. I want it to be a seminar.

At the Vid Summit, I met a guy named Joseph who talked a lot about messaging. I talked to him four times. Messaging is very important. If you already have uncivilized products, you’ll get it.

Tickets are like $700. Costs after buying the plane ticket and hotel are about $2500. I learned a lot. I met the guy who created the pooping unicorn and the guy who created Goldilocks and the purple mattress there.

This is a new event It’s on social media marketing and video marketing. There’s a lot to it.

I want to get in your class and don’t have the money. You should round up all the junk in your house that you don’t use anymore and sell it. Have a garage sale.

How did you get to know so many rich people?

From business. You have to not only move your business location but your physical location. I can meet someone at McDonald’s who is a decision maker. You need to get out and start talking to people. I got to meet the guy who owns Peachtree Towers while I was working.

$0 – $350,000 How to Start Your Business and Make Guaranteed Money

What we are going to talk about today is the biggest problem most people have when starting their business, which is an inability to sell. The inability to market and to sell or the fear of selling is a big problem for many people.

If you learn how to sell and market, you’ll never go hungry. I’ll give you three levels of sales ability and what each will do for you. If you are adequate, you’ll always have money. If you become good, you’ll live a very good lifestyle. At this level, you might even become rich with the opportunity for becoming wealthy. If you become a great salesperson, you’re definitely going to become rich and you have an opportunity to become wealthy.

Let’s say rich is your house and car are paid for and there’s plenty of money left over to save for retirement after you pay your bills. At that level, you are rich. That’s not wealthy.

Wealthy is when you don’t have to work. Whether you go to work or not, nothing in your life changes.

Let’s talk about the selling thing. One of the reasons people don’t want to learn to sell and market is because they’re disgusted by sellers and marketers. If you tell someone you are a salesperson, some people assume that you are a “con” or a “hack.”

If you learn how to sell and you learn how to market properly, your money problems go away. But, if you think selling or marketing is bad, you subconsciously are not going to want to learn those skills. If you do learn them, then you are not going to be good at it if you subconsciously think it is full of shit.

If you learn direct marketing, cold calling, cold email, then you’re going to grow your business much much faster than if you build content and have people come to you from inbound marketing. The difference is amazing. For example, if you contact 50 or 100 people a day who are targeted for your business and services, you will grow your business very fast.

Let’s say you put out content and it’s just you working on it. You write articles. You do YouTube. You do Instagram. You do all of that stuff every day. It could take you many weeks, months or a year to get significant sales.

Compare those results to direct marketing and cold calling. If you started today, you could get your first sale today. That’s how you go from $0 to $350K really quickly. If you are new to selling stuff online, you are better off using a direct marketing model.

When you do the work, make the phone calls and go to meetings; you discover stuff other people don’t know. I’ll give you an example. A few years ago, I went to a networking event that I didn’t want to go to. I thought it was bullshit. It was a convention for vendors to sell their services and products to end users.

So, I go to this networking event and I meet this girl that is drunk out of her mind. She drops five things in my lap and I start selling office furniture a few weeks later. I made the most money I’d ever made. This came from a pointless meeting. There was no selling going on. People were drinking and having fun. You’ve got to open doors. You’ve got to get with people with their hair down. A lot of these pointless meetings can be very beneficial.

Cold calling is introducing yourself and your products or services to people you don’t know. That’s it. We’re going to talk about how to make cold call and cold emails in the course, Courageous Cold Calling.

If you learn how to properly cold call, you get women. You get money. You get freedom.

Now, social media works very well when you get it dialed in. It can crush. But it takes more time. I have videos on this channel I did four, five, six or seven years ago that are still making me money today. In the beginning, I did not make any money for five months. I was working 12 hours a day, seven days a week.

Fortunately, I had money in the bank. I set a goal of making $50K a year. Most folks are not in this position.

The reality is if you need to make money today or this week – you can’t wait. If you stay on Craigslist eight hours a day, I guarantee you that you will find underpriced stuff you can sell to make money. That’s a fact. If done correctly, you create a hustle to pay your rent or mortgage while you build your business.

If you’ve ever gone over to a chick and introduced yourself, that’s a cold call. You know how to do it. You just don’t want to do it because it’s hard. It’s tough. There’s a lot of rejection. If you are a male and introduce yourself to 10 women a day, you will never suffer from loneliness.

Question: How do I learn these skills?

Answer: Practice. Find something you want to sell and practice. You can’t read yourself to money. You can’t podcast listen yourself to money. You can’t watch YouTube videos to money. You actually have to go out there and do stuff. Pick one or two things you are interested in and start doing them.

Question: Not to be an asshole, but why should I take advice from you?

Answer: You don’t have to take any advice from me. But for some reason, you tuned in. Now ask yourself why you tuned in. Check my resume. There’s a timeline on me. I didn’t just come out of nowhere.

Before you buy a course, sit down and ask yourself where you want to be in ten years. Do you want to be married? Do you want to have a house? Do you want to travel? Figure out what makes you tick. Pick something that you are really interested in.

One of the things I push people to do is discover what’s their thing. Many of us don’t know what we want to be when we grow up. Figure out how you want to live. I want you to think about what makes you excited and go there.

Question: How can I improve my cold calling?

Answer: The first thing you want to do is research who you are calling. I spend thirty minutes to an hour figuring out who they are. I find flaws that I can fix and point that shit out.

How to Be Successful in Life – You Need a System in 4 Steps

Today I have a question for you. What is your process for success? I touched on it earlier on my Renegade Facebook page. Some real important lessons have become very clear to me this year. It is not how much your course costs, it’s not even if your information is good that determines success. It doesn’t matter.

It is not the price points or the tools. It is your system that matters.

For years, it has been driving me crazy. I would have someone who would take one of my courses, read a book and do really well. Then, I would have other people who would struggle or drop out.

I’ve had some really smart people not be able to do my courses. I’ve had other self-professed people who said they weren’t that smart who have completed my courses and gotten benefit from them. It left me wondering, “What the hell?”

I started to inquire. I talked to a lot of people on the phone and asked them some crazy questions. I’ve nailed the answer down to, “What kind of system do you personally have for success?” This answer to this question goes back to whether you know how to study.

It’s not about money. It’s not about being connected. It’s none of those things. If you have a process for success, you can get connected.

Have you ever thought about how you do what you do? Frequently, when I am in Facebook groups, I am the contrarian. I ask people questions. “Why do you do X? Why do you do Z?” As I ask these questions it becomes clear that these people are doing something different.

It’s really interesting. Some of the things I’ve done recently are doing amazingly well. But these are folks I am choosing. It’s not going to work for everyone. That’s just a dream I have to let go.

Unless you are going to make some fundamental changes in who you are and how you do things, you will still fail. You can have the best teacher, money, information and connections; and you can still fail.

It’s amazing. I think it is the process that explains how someone like Arthur Blank goes from virtually nothing to become a billionaire. Compared to Blank, Trump started way ahead born into a wealthy family and has not had the same impact as Arthur Blank. Arthur Blank is richer, and in my opinion is a better human being.

The thing is that process matters. Amazon was created out of nothing. People laughed at the man. Folks mocked him.

There are a lot of people who want to quit their jobs because they hate their jobs. But, they have no pathway, no process and no success. I have talked more people out of quitting their jobs than I can count.

I know what it’s like to start a company. I know what it’s like to start several companies. I know what it’s like to work your ass off and not make any money for months. I haven’t done that for years. But I remember.

I know that if you launch something, you are going to have to put forth a lot of effort, energy and enthusiasm. The average person who does not have a system for success is just going to say, “Fuck it. I’m not doing that. I’m going to get a job. Then I’m going to be miserable and complain about it on Facebook.”

So, here’s the system. Number 1 – You’ve got to be fundamentally honest with who the fuck you are. That’s hard because you could build a successful company that is 100% against who you are as a person. That will destroy your soul. That happens a lot. People may believe that if the money is there, it is worth doing. I say, no it’s not.

When I started this YouTube channel and this writing and internet marketing career, my goal was to earn $50K per year. I had no grand expectations or illusions about what success was. I studied the market. I knew it was hard making a living as a writer. I just went for it.

You might be a person who wants to make handcrafted earrings. They make your heart leap for joy. You’re really good at it. The marketplace may say for you that this pursuit is worth $80K a year. But, you are happy. The marketplace may say that your earrings are worth $40K per year. But you are happy, and it is worth it.

Then you go ahead and start selling some stuff that you don’t believe in, but the marketplace says we like it and we are going to pay you $2 million a year. I don’t think the money is worth it. I’ve never been like that. I don’t care who you are, you need money. But, how much and at what cost?

I’ve never wanted to be a billionaire. That’s never been my thing. But, I have always wanted to be wealthy. Wealthy is when your assets work for you when you aren’t working. That is something I’ve always wanted. You don’t have to be a millionaire to have that kind of lifestyle.

Here’s a few more tips on how to create a system of success. The second thing you have to understand is who you really are, without worrying about who people want you to be. The world is really strange. If you are authentic and push forward with that in mind, a lot of people who hate your ass will start to love you. They will start to love you and they will support you. Howard Stern is proof of that idea. On minute, everybody hated him. Then, he’s on a TV show and everybody got used to him. Now many people love him.

Be brutally honest about who you are and what you want to do. That satisfaction sticks with you. You sleep with it. You wake up with it. That’s really your power source.

The third thing you need is to become comfortable with failure. That’s part of the system. There will be a time you will have an idea, thinking it’s going to kill. Then you put it out there in the marketplace. The marketplace says, “No, I don’t like it.” You will have more ideas that you have to euthanize than will make it. That’s just reality. You have to look at failure as feedback that you need to try something else.

The fourth thing you must learn is to appreciate small things. One of the mindsets that stops people is the “Homerun Mentality.” There are people that have businesses doing $60K, $100K, $150K and they are terribly unhappy because it is not a million-dollar business yet. People often quit too early because the results don’t come fast enough.

I appreciated all the people in 2009 who bought my first book. It was only about $560. I was so grateful. Other folks would have given up.

Some people have no gratitude for anything. They’re so miserable and they want you to be miserable too.

All you need is a system for success to win. Follow the four steps above and you will find success in your life.

Facebook Marketing Does Not Get You 50K – $100K a Month Clients

I was looking at a very interesting comment when I decided to do this video. The comment asked, “Why not just target everybody on Facebook?” Well, I’m going to give you a $40K reason why you shouldn’t do that.

I got two clients that I acquired recently and neither one of the clients is on Facebook. Let that sink in for a minute. There are tons and tons of people on Facebook. You know who is making the most money on Facebook? GM. Revlon. It’s big brands. That’s who is making the most money on Facebook. The reason the big companies are making the most money on Facebook is because they have huge infrastructures that allow them to spend $200K a day and profit from it.

Let’s talk about Facebook targeting since that was part of the comment. This was the type of feedback I got when I put up my video, No eBay, No Amazon. People kept questioning why you should build your own ecommerce site when eBay and Amazon have all the traffic. That was back in 2014.

HAHA. Motherfucking HAHA. Since then, not a dozen, but 1000s of sellers on Amazon have been financially hurt because of changes that I published were coming. The same thing is going to happen to Facebook. It’s already happening with Facebook.

Talk to anybody who is making a lot of money on Facebook. They will tell you about the changes.

My experience is that my high-ticket clients come from YouTube. One client is very much about privacy, which means no Facebook and No Twitter. They’re just grinding and running their business.

The other client has a Facebook page. He says he’s never on it. He explained, “My wife made it for me. I don’t believe in that bullshit.”

There are many executives and high-income people who are not on Facebook. Why aren’t they on Facebook? Let me give you a scenario.

If you have the money to really “live that life,” why would you be on Facebook posting pictures to fake that life versus “living that life.” If your name is Al and you run a company that does $10 million a year, netting you about $1.2 million after taxes, you aren’t on Facebook dicking around, arguing with people. Instead, you are in your beach house or your hunting lodge. You’re in Italy with your family or you’re on some excursion. You simply don’t have time to screw around on Facebook because you are too busy running your business and living your life.

Facebook can be great. But, if you only know how to market on Facebook, you’re going to be in trouble at some point. Facebook is not typically business stuff, except for a few of the groups. I’ve done both YouTube and Facebook.

Right now, YouTube is the biggest media thing online. I’ve made a lot of money on Facebook, but I’ve always made more money on YouTube. I’ve always made long money on YouTube. When you put up a video that does well and you’ve got it properly optimized, you can make money even when YouTube changes stuff.

With Facebook, you have to consider how long does that post live? How long does that sucker last? You’ve got to always keep posting.

Let’s talk about posting. Let’s talk about marketing. I’m going to give you an example. I would not want to do this, but if I had to go take a job, this is what I would do. Let’s say it is a carpet cleaning sales job.

I would be a motherfucker on the phone. I would get a lot of business. I would do two things. I would work on the Internet stuff. I would also cold call because the cold calling is faster.

I would figure out whatever they do in the carpet cleaning business to get traffic, and then do it times twenty. Next, I would build a landing page to track my business and hire a team that would get leads.

If all you’re doing is Facebook stuff, a competitor with some seasoning is going to eat your lunch. While you are trying and learning, they’re going to kick your ass. In this scenario, they have already learned it and they are doing it times 20.

There’s this thing called NextDoor.com. Just for kicks, I’ll go look for this person on ,Facebook and notice there is no activity. There may be a few pictures, but that’s it. You see it over and over again. I have more confidence in NextDoor.com because people are using their real names and addresses.

In the beginning, I tried to market on Facebook. I was unsuccessful because I didn’t know what I was doing. Now that I am busy building the new companies, I don’t have much time to spend on Facebook. Being on Facebook is just not a good use of my time.

I’ll give you an example of a big company and how they market. HubSpot sells products to salespeople and companies. They get most of their high-end clients from Meetups, not from the internet. There is this fallacy that everything can be done on the internet.

I think at some point that’s going to be true. But, we’re not there yet. I think you can make a lot of money selling low-end, low-risk, low-trust physical products. When it pertains to high-end consulting, you’re going to have to market differently. You’re going to have to have a better pedigree. You’re going to have to hop on a plane. That’s just the reality of it.

Once again, Facebook marketing is very powerful depending on the game you’re playing. If you are a freelancer and you’re always struggling with the problem of having either a lot of work or no work, you have a sales process problem. The problem is you don’t have a sales process. You don’t have a marketing process or a cold calling process. That’s why it is up and down.

I know that a lot of people are struggling. I know that every time Facebook does an algorithm change, it fucks up a lot of people’s money. It’s the same thing with Google, AdWords and YouTube.

I got hit hard on my YouTube channel because of so many changes. You know I use profanity quite a bit. I also send a lot of traffic off the platform. It took me six months to figure out a way for me to do what I want. I’m going to give YouTube what it wants some of the time.

You should learn how to do Facebook marketing. Take a course. Also, learn how to do YouTube marketing. Learn how to do Instagram marketing. You need to have at least two to three things you can do.

I can do Google AdWords. I can do YouTube marketing. I can do cold calling. You need to have two to three really strong skill sets, and not just because there are people on YouTube who have literally lost 75% to 95% of their income overnight. It’s going to take a minimum of three months to a year to learn a new marketing skill.

Why do most people struggle with making money online using free information?

The answer is going to surprise you. It’s not because the people giving you the information are holding back. They’re not holding back. A lot of people are giving you great information.

Part of the problem relates to an infrastructure issue. Someone can give you tools and step by step instructions on how to make money for free, but you still struggle because you have jumped ahead  several steps without having a good foundation for growth.

I’m going to explain this idea to you by comparing it to lifting weights. You can’t bench 500 pounds before you bench 225 pounds. You can’t squat 600 pounds before you squat 300 pounds.

Yet, many people think they can come online and listen to someone put out the tools and they expect to be able to duplicate the success of that person without going through the basic training that person completed and experienced.

I’ll give you an example. I listened to this podcast that had information about how to create products and sell them before you make them. I had to listen to that podcast 10 times. I was missing some things. There were certain things I did not have a foundation for that would have made it easy for me to understand.

This is why I struggled. It wasn’t the information; it was me.

If you are trying to use free information without doing the basic work and establishing a foundation for growth, you will struggle.

There are several YouTube channels. There are several podcasts. There are several blogs and Facebook pages all over the place with free information that will help you. But, without the right foundation, that free information is not really going to help you.

Another reason you struggle with free information is because, nothing in life is free.

There’s opportunity costs. There are some things you are going to have to do. There are things you are going to have to execute. The costs are time, energy and money; or a combo of all three.

I see people all the time who are looking for things that are free. The reason many people are always looking for free information and help is because of their ego. Many people think they are smarter than they really are and they can figure it all out without paying for help.

When those people call something a scam, they believe it’s a scam because they said it was scam. They ignore the fact that they didn’t do the right things and that they weren’t prepared. They also never blame the fact that they didn’t have the resources or foundation for success before using that information.

It’s very troublesome, because you hear stories like the one about a woman who made $1.2 million in four years. I can’t remember her name. She had been working on her business for three years. The husband was working and supporting the family so she could devote all of her time to her business. People say she made a million dollars overnight, ignoring the fact that she worked hard for four years, full-time. It was a four-year journey. It was still very fast.

She did the foundation work. She used to get a lot of shit in the group because she did her own work. It didn’t jive with a lot of the stuff other people were saying.

Now this brings me to the third reason people struggle with free information. They have no work ethic. If you have a good work ethic and you have a reasonable intelligence level, then you can figure out anything.

Now, what is figuring out anything. Let’s go back to that example. The podcast I listened to was an hour and 30 minutes long. I listened to it 10 times. That’s 15 hours of listening, plus the research time. I probably had 40 hours plus in that process. That’s how long it took me to figure it out. Many people would read it once and then get frustrated. Then they’d call it a scam.

The lack of work ethic is killing people. It’s killing hopes and dreams.

Reason number four is need. This relates closely to infrastructure. If you need free stuff because you don’t have anything and you are Broke Dick Danny or Penniless Priscilla, then you have other issues. One is not so much how much money you earn, but it’s a lack of financial discipline.

You have not done the things you need to do to be successful at a basic level or at your foundation. Educate yourself. Demonstrate work ethic and discipline.

While these things are supposedly free, they’re not. It costs a lot of time, effort, sweat, blood and tears. They are very expensive, but they’re worth the price.

The Biggest Seller on Amazon/ Setting Up an Office/ Growing a Business Rant

If you are afraid of hardship. If you are afraid of things not being certain, then probably being a business owner is not for you. It’s something that is going to drive you crazy. You are going to stay up all night, freaking out. You are going to be worried about life in general. Certain things are going to be beyond you.

That is one of the reasons that “Hustler’s Porn” is so pervasive. The hook or gimmick used in “Hustler’s Porn” is leading people into believing that you don’t really have to work that hard or worry about anything. Another popular part of this line of thinking is the promise of great rewards and great results for little to no effort.

It doesn’t work like that. It just doesn’t. But you hear it over and over again.

In Personal Development for Hustlers on the other channel, I will get into how you can prepare your mind for the truth and void “Hustler’s Porn.” This is the reason I tell you what I’ve been through. I tell you about the five businesses that failed.

Everybody that I know who has made serious money has had serious setbacks. We’ll use people that everybody knows to drive that point home. Bill Gates got sued by the federal government. Zuckerberg has been sued and is being sued now. Steve Jobs was fired from his own company and then died from cancer.

If you want to be successful, I have two pieces of advice for you. Learn how to solve problems. Learn how to keep your mind when shit goes sideways.

Bad things will happen. Sometimes when something bad happens, that is an opportunity for something great to happen.

Let’s talk about what happened to me years ago with eBay. I woke up and 2000 listings were gone and my money was locked up in PayPal. It forced me to push Craigslist really hard. It forced me to perform at a higher level.

The more that you push yourself, the more that you fail. The more fuckups you have, the more money you will make if you can manage to keep your sanity during the fuckups.

That’s the tricky part. That’s the part that’s a little daunting because then you have to own some bullshit. You have to look at yourself and admit that you’ve fucked up.

I remember years ago in a break room when I worked at Northside Hospital. It was me and four females in the break room. I said I made a mistake and this one woman said, “Let me get this straight, you’re a man and you said you made a mistake?”

And I was like, “You know, everybody makes mistakes.”

She said, “I’ve never heard a man say that.”

If you can admit your mistakes and press forward, your success is almost assured.

Today, I am going out and I’m getting computers for the office. Here’s something that is really a big part of scaling. It’s about getting the infrastructure, because what I am doing is building this business to grow. Everything that I do includes a component for future growth.

If you don’t do that when you are building your business, you are going to trap it at a certain level. The business will stop there and stay there regardless of how hard you work.

When you build a business, you’ve got to look five years ahead which can be very hard if you’ve never done any of this before.

If you are Broke Dick Danny and you move up to Classy Carl with a few shillings in your pocket from doing eBay and Amazon netting $8K or so every month after expenses, you still don’t have a business compared to someone that went into business with $2 or $3 million.

Google Pharmapacks. They’re the biggest seller on Amazon. Now, here’s the backstory. The guy who started Pharmapacks was rich already. He was a pharmacist with one pharmacy and he was opening up another one. We’re looking at millions of dollars in sales before he got anywhere near Amazon.

You can’t compare yourself to this guy if you’re Broke Dick Danny or Classy Carl. He was already rich before he even got started.

You are better off starting a small ecommerce business in an area that a lot of people are not in than trying to duke it out with this person. Many people will try to fight with this person instead of doing their own thing.

I have a client and we’re building out an ecommerce business. We’re putting a lot of time and effort into the company. I’m going to document the process. For people trying to get started, these videos will help you.

I rented another office. Here’s the thing about growth. We had planned on sharing the office, but due to the fact we’re growing very fast I already see that in a matter of weeks, we’re going to be tapped out with client’s people. So, I am getting my own office for Mack Daddy Media. You’ll get to see both companies grow from the outside.

Just to be real clear, I’ll probably show you screenshots with certain things blacked out. If you own a website and you come on YouTube trying to help people by showing your website, it will fuck up the metrics.

What I mean by that is that people come into your websites to check it out, right? That’s in the video. That’s going to skew your Google Analytics because you have a bunch of “Looky Loos” coming to see what you have versus real customers coming to purchase.

Now that’s something a lot of people don’t talk about, the real money. I’m not going to do screen shots of my bank account. That’s a good way for someone to rob you or steal your identity.

But, I’m going to show you the real stuff about building a business, how to make this really happen.

Escape the Middle Class and Make America Great

Tonight, we’re going to talk about something very deep, escaping the middle class. That is going to be a problem for many people.

If you don’t want to read it, you can watch this video.

The middle class or what is supposedly the middle class pays the largest amount of taxes. The reality is you pay many taxes that you don’t consider taxes. The lottery is a voluntary tax. Where does the money go? It goes to the government.

Traffic tickets are another involuntary tax you pay when you get pulled over. Forty-nine to fifty percent of all of your dollars are going somewhere. It’s like all of your dollars are torn in half.

The only way you can escape the lower or middle class is you’ve got to earn more money. Where you need to be is at $200K as a couple and at $125K as an individual. There aren’t a lot of jobs paying that.

Fifty-one percent of America doesn’t make $30K a year, seriously. Thirty-eight percent of Americans make less than $20K a year. Sixty-two percent of all Americans make less than $40K. Seventy one percent of all Americans make less than $50K.

If you fall in these ranges, you’re not even good. What did I just tell you? Half of every dollar that you get goes to some kind of tax. So, it’s not really good.

When you are caught up in inertia – you have to have significant velocity to push you out of that. Many, many years ago, this was my conundrum. I was sitting there in my room in the boarding house and I was thinking, how the hell do I get out of here.

My issues were not racism. My pressing issues were all 100% economic. Economics dictated where I lived. Economics dictated how I lived. At that point, I wasn’t even making $20K a year.

If you make more income and move up in class, you are going to insulate yourself from a lot of bullshit. Not from all bullshit. No.

Typically, as someone from the middle class, everything you do is predicated on money. Decisions about the trips you take and what food you eat are decided by money. This is huge.

Eating healthy and eating well is not cheap. I’m not going to say it is expensive because the food you eat dictates your health. That’s reality.

For this discussion, we’ll define the middle class as those people earning from $20K to $50K. In reality, for practical purposes, $20K to $50K is poverty level. Let’s say you’re at the top of that group earning $50K. If you have a good tax situation, you pay minimally $10K in taxes. That leaves you with $40K or $3333 per month. Let’s say you have a low mortgage or rent payment of $850 per month. That brings you down to $2400 now. This is where the shit gets dicey.

You have a new car with a $350 payment. Then you spend $250 for gas and $112 for insurance. Now we’re down to $1900 per month. That’s for one person and doesn’t include anyone else. Let’s go ahead and subtract out another $800 a month for utilities and food. That brings you to $971. We’ll assume that’s your money to blow. Now, let’s say your transmission blows. Now you are in debt.

Even at this higher level of this income range, all it takes is one thing to happen and BAM, you’re out of it. That’s why you’ve got to get out of these income ranges.

All the government numbers are skewed. They talk about household income which might be two or three wage earners.

I have been through each of these stages from no money to $20K to $50K to $70K to $100K to $150K.

I’m going to tell you what happened with that $150K. That’s when I got my first big check. I was working for the office furniture company. I did a big deal and I got to the office. There’s this envelope with my name on it. I pulled this check out for $64K. It was the most money I’d ever had at one time in my fucking life.

I went out and I bought a new BMW. I got fucking generous and was leaving $20 tips.

When I finally got to the income level of $150K, I could do what I wanted, how I wanted and was still paying all my bills and still saving money. Once you’re making $150K to $200K, you’ve got a cushion.

Like, if you’re at $200K and your car breaks down, you can buy a new car with cash in a matter of months, or you can finance it at some ridiculous rate and pay it off in four or five months.

When you are in this $20 to $50K range, when the car breaks down; it’s a drama. When someone gets sick, it’s a drama.

When my partner died, I didn’t work for six fucking months. I didn’t do shit for six months.

I’m going to talk about why the middle class doesn’t exist. The system is rigged. If you are at an income level that doesn’t allow you to live how you want all of the time and you get sick and can’t work for a few months, you go literally from classy to ashy and you are suddenly poor.

Let’s say you make $80K a year. You have great credit, but you have no recurring income. You have no passive income. You have no property. You have no investments. You’re poor.

I know it sounds crazy. But once again, I’m giving you what I’ve gone though. I’m teaching you what I have learned. You want to get to a point where you have way more money than you need.

If you are under $80K, you are very vulnerable. Even if you have really good savings habits. Let’s say you save $25K per year for five years and you now have $125K in savings in the bank, liquid.

Then something happens and you can’t work for a year. Let’s go back to the Great Recession. We saw people that had $200K or $300K in their 401K – all gone. I’m talking about this to illustrate a point. Even when you have as much as $125K in the bank, it can go really quickly if something goes wrong.

Typically, if you are young and healthy and you don’t have a lot of debt, you are fine. As you get older, that shit’s going to change.

If you can get your earnings to $125K to $200K, you can live very well. You can invest 50% of your income. If you are between $20K to $50K, everything is a struggle. You have to save up for vacations or go in debt. You have to think about everything you want to do. That doesn’t leave a lot of bandwidth for starting a business or escaping the hell hole.

When you change class, your circle of friends changes. When that happens, your opportunities increase.

If everybody you know is broke, where are the opportunities?

In the $20K to $50K range, all I thought about was, please don’t let shit go wrong. That was the main thought in my mind. When all you think about is surviving, that’s all you are going to do.

Now I think about how can I make more money.

It’s going to take a plan. It’s going to take some money. You have to change your environment to move up.

You have to escape the $20K to $50K income range. The middle class doesn’t exist. You are either a “have” or “have not.”

How to Make Money – The Fastest Path to Making Money – Focus on What You Want

Where is your fight when it comes to talking about your success versus what other people are doing? Where is it? I mean seriously, where is it?

You’ve got to focus on your success like you focus on other topics that don’t put money in your pocket, don’t put food in your mouth, and don’t really help your life overall.

I was talking with a friend this weekend. He said the reason some people jump on this stuff is because there are no consequences. There is no effort required. Nothing has to happen. It’s easy. It doesn’t create problems. It doesn’t create a situation. There’s no skin in the game.

Now, let’s go back and talk about how to be successful with your business, with your life. You have to focus on the things you want.

People say they want to be successful. Okay, so what are you doing about it? Are you reading books? Are you taking courses, educating yourself, starting businesses? Are you doing these things that would indicate that you truly want to be successful? If the answer is, “No,” then you are lying to yourself.

I started mapping out Hustler’s Kung Fu six months ago. I was focused putting it all together and wasn’t doing much else. I was testing it.

Let’s talk about this. When you have people here on YouTube who don’t have a business, who have never made any money at all and who refuse to give you any credentials, you can’t listen to those folks. You can’t listen to broke folks on how to make money. You can’t listen to non-business owners on how to start a business. It’s like taking marriage advice from someone who’s never been married.

There is a lack of focus on success. One of the things I do is every time I send out an email, I write an income goal on my daily sheets. A lot of days, I don’t hit it. I always make more money when I set a goal. I always make more money when I focus on process. I always make more money when I focus on making money.

That sounds very simple. If you weighed in on what you are doing with your business and the things that you have going on, how many hours are you focused on making money? How much of your time is focused on your health and living a good life? How many hours are you just kind of existing?

One of the problems I have with some overly religious people is how they talk about destiny or fate. I don’t believe in Karma. I think Karma is a way people can feel better about getting fucked over and not doing anything.

When you reject a lot of these notions, you have to fill that space with something else.

With the internet, you can start a business today. This time next year, it could be supporting you, if not sooner. That’s real. But, it’s not real if you don’t focus on it.

When the fuckery started getting really, really bad a few years ago from haters on YouTube, I had to make a choice. You can either participate in it or you can work your ass off and work on your stuff.

Sometimes fuckery is seductive, and you have to ignore it. I am so glad I did because I have seen how people deteriorate. This is what happens if you have an internet business and YouTube channel and you’re doing some stuff. If you’re frequently calling people out, you are hurting your own wallet. You are fucking up your cash flow.

This is the thing – when you do a video, there’s the process of doing it and the pre-process of thinking about it. Some of the videos I do, I think about for weeks. So, that’s hours and hours of contemplation and pondering.

So, if you put up a hate video – you may have 10 hours invested in that. Those ten hours could have gone towards making money. If you do this type of thing four times a month, that’s 30 or 40 hours invested in fuckery. You can’t win by investing that much time in fuckery.

I’ve noticed that people that create the most trouble on Facebook and YouTube are frequently broke as fuck. Frequently, they’re not happy people. Haters are people who don’t focus on success, but will spend more time and energy coming after you than working on their own success. It’s totally, totally crazy. I see it over and over again.

This is something I want you to do. I want you to sit down and do an audit of your hours. How many hours a day do you focus on success? How many hours a day do you focus on other things? I don’t mean just fuckery, but other things you have to do. Where does your energy go? What is your focus?

When I did a critical error in 2012, I shifted my focus. It was the worst year I ever had here on YouTube. I was like, “Damn, what the hell happened?” It was crazy. I made a very big mistake. I changed my focus.

What I’ve done lately is I’ve come back to the way I started. I’ve come back to the way I’ve been doing things for a long time. They work because they’re timeless.

Continue to audit yourself. When you audit, and monitor your activity, you’ll see trends.

If you are putting 50% or your time into being successful, you’ll be successful. I can’t say when, but you will.
