If you don’t want to read it, you can watch this video.
One of the things you must have if you’re going to be successful, you must have action. You can sit and plan and think all day long about this, but until you get up off your ass to make it happen, it’s a whim. It’s not going to happen. It ranks up there as a dream.
You must learn how to get yourself engaged. Procrastination can be your biggest enemy. You may have everything else. You have the mindset, the tools, the capital, but procrastination is on your back like a monkey. One of the things you have to do is tap deep in your heart. You have to decide what really makes you tick. What motivates you? Once you find out what really drives you, you’ll be able to make yourself take action.
Nothing happens in the planning stage. Nothing happens in the concept stage. If you’re weak on idea and planning, but strong on action, you’ll get further ahead than someone who is great at that stuff but is weak on taking action.
What I’ve learned is that it is not the mistakes in life that trip you up that kill you. What really kills you is the bitter regret of not trying something. That’s something that will gnaw at your soul.
One of the tools that will actually make you take action is to sit down decide what’s real and what’s fake. What I mean is the things that are very real in life motivate you, such as hunger poverty and being on the street. That’s real. You may not want to go to that job, but you need that check in two weeks. So, you get your ass and you head in there.
You may actually hate that job, but because of the benefits, you do what you need to do. You have to figure out, what do you really, really want to do? So many people think that you can have it all.
I personally don’t think you can have it all at the same time. I think you can have everything you want in life, but there is a series of stages and a progression, and there needs to be a plan. You do those and you can have everything.
People want the body, the money and the lifestyle at 25 and don’t want to work for it. There are people far smarter than I am that may make it happen. Bit in my experience, it is going to take some time, persistence and effort.
One day, unplug your cell phone and turn off the computer and TV. Turn off any possible distraction. I’m guilty of this too. When I do videos, I turn off my emails, my phones and everything, because that type of stuff in our society just pulls at you.
You can be in the middle of a great train of thought, then it’s gone because So and So called to tell you that the Emerson’s cat is stuck in the tree. The next thing you know, you’ve had a thirty-minute conversation and you’ve done nothing to contribute to your life.
Get rid of all those distractions. Take a pen and some paper, and take an hour to write about what you really want to do with yourself. We’re so busy moving forward, living life and paying bills, that dreams and ambitions get lost in the mix. It is easy to get caught in that lockstep.
Take that pen and paper and at the top of the paper, write My Life. Write down everything about your life that is great. Then take another piece of paper and at the top write My Life Sucks. List everything that sucks in your life on that sheet. Then you take a third shoot of paper, then you start cross-referencing. You see how certain things on one sheet offset other things on the other sheet. You’re not going to get rid of all the negatives. It’s a pipe dream.
You can boil it down to a very manageable list. Then you have to think about what you can do to get some of the stuff on your list of negatives off to bring some more happiness into your life. Then create an action plan.
Let’s say you’re happy with your life, but you’re overweight. Put it on the list. Create a plan. Then take action. It’s not going to happen overnight. Action is super important. You’ve got to do something.
You’re better off having 30 or 40% of the plan and 80% action then having 90% of the plan and 10% action. The action is where it happens. That’s when things start to come together. SO, you’ve got those three pieces of paper. That third sheet of paper if your action plan.
The next thing you do is create more action plans. This becomes your best friend. When I go to the gym, people laugh at me because I have a journal with me. I can look back where I started and see the results. That puts fuel in your tank. That makes me excited.
It’s like saving money. It’s hard putting those first few dollars in the bank, but once you do and it start stacking up, you get excited. It becomes fun.
You have to force yourself to get started. If you don’t have the discipline to make yourself get started, get a friend. Get that person that tells you about yourself. Get that person who loves you but isn’t afraid to tell you your messing up. Everyone has one. Tell them to make you accountable.
The first 30 days are going to be the hardest. Action begets action. Once you get started, it’s hard. Then the next thing you know, it’s just rolling. I feel weird if I don’t work out now.
In business, it’s the same deal. If you want to start a business, the first thing you do is break that business down into small components and then you start doing it. It may be as simple as getting five or ten people together to pitch your product to. It’s a small step, but it moves you in the right direction.
Also with action, you need consistency. You have to be consistent with your action. It builds up and will give you more energy. Also, get away from the quick fix. Get away from the microwave society. Start working on yourself. When you invest action and discipline in yourself, you feel more valuable. When you feel more valuable, people will pay you more money, because you look like money. If you look like money and walk like money, people will give you more money. I’m living proof of that.
I got where I got to in life from hard work, hustle, learning from my mistakes and action. I have failed. I got up. I failed again. I got up. I failed again. I got up. I refuse to frigging quit. That’s what will get you where you want to be.
Every journey starts with a single step. So, you need to get started now and be consistent with your action. If you need to give yourself a little reward along the way, do it. That will keep you from bingeing out.
Take baby steps. But keep walking towards your goals. Continue to walk and take action.
