Not Thinking Big Is the Reason Folks Are Not Successful

If you don’t want to read it, you can watch this video.

Not thinking big is the reason some folks are not successful. Yes, that’s the truth. You can work hard a long time and not make a lot of money in a business. I had four businesses when I was in the military.

Even though at the time I was losing my ass money wise, I had income coming in. But, I bought my education because I fucked up. You will learn more from fucking up then you will from your biggest successes.

When you are successful, you relax a little bit. You lose your edge a little bit. Success is nice. It’s seductive. It’s like that pretty chick who is walking your way saying, “I’m going to do you big boy” and means it. That’s success.

Understand. Fucking up and making mistakes is part of the game. I don’t know one person who is successful who had it easy. Let’s talk about Bill Gates. The dude went through more lawsuits than some district attorneys in small towns. Lawsuits, infringements and bad press were constant problems for him.

There was a lot of stuff Bill Gates had to deal with. The dude was going through hell. It was worth it.

The writing thing has turned out nice for me. I’m not the struggling writer. This shit blew up. Why? It happened because I know how to set up and run a business. I did it nine frigging times. The first times were some fucked up dry runs.

Number 6, 7, 8 and 9 were lovely. Why? Because I bought my experience. So many of you want to get out there and BAM! – you’re immediately making $10K a month. I’m going to tell you why that’s the worst thing in the world for you.

If you get that type of success really quickly, you’re going to fuck it up. Your mind can’t handle it. Look at all those stars like Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan who have a really good life, but who do drugs and all kinds of crazy stuff. They can’t handle the pressure and stress. You think that won’t be you?

Here’s a FACT. Ninety percent of lottery winners are broke within five years. Many of these people are getting more money in a few days than they’ve made in a lifetime. They can’t handle it because in this country we’ve got some really fucked up notions about money. Common preconceived ideas that circulate include the following. Rich people are bad. Money is bad.

Money is a tool. It does nothing good. It does nothing bad. Some people think there’s a nobility in poverty. I’ve been poor. I lived in a boarding house with crack heads. That shit wasn’t noble.

The deal is there’s a certain amount of dues-paying you’ve got to go through. It’s unavoidable. You can’t get around it. You can try, but it will catch up with you.

So, take your time. Enjoy this journey. Love your family and if you stick with this long enough, you will be successful.

Will you have my level of success? Who knows. You may do better than I did. You have got to get the knowledge. No one is going to give it to you. You’ve got to be hungry.

Let’s get back to the original core of this video which is thinking big. I’m not talking about a big house. I’m not talking about a big ass car.

I live very modestly. I drive a ’94 BMW. Why? I drive it because it is cheap to fix. It’s paid off and it gets me where I need to go in a style I find comfortable. I don’t even like the new ones because they keep messing with the design.

Thinking big is sitting down and not going, “I’m going to build this business to make money.” That’s actually small thinking, I’m telling you. I created a life plan. This was about freedom.

If you can create a business and you have the right financial education, which is very important, then you sell it in three or four years netting $2 million, you’ll never have to work a day again. You can put it in municipal bonds. Let’s say it’s paying five percent. That’s 90K a year.

You still have the $2 million after the 20-year period to leave to your kids or whatever. You’ve got to make some decisions about how you want to live your life before you start your business.

I get people all the time who come to me for help. They say, “I’ve got money. I want you to be my consultant.” I’m like… “No. Think about why you really want to do this. What are you really chasing?”

It’s rarely about money. When I say, people don’t think big, I’m talking about their whole life. Do you want to get married? What kind of life do you want for your kids? All of that is thinking big.

I had a partner which helped make me very successful. She did a lot. To grow, you’ve got to think bigger than where you are today. I can’t really make it any plainer.

I don’t care if you’re in a trailer watching this video on your phone. You’ve got to think bigger than your circumstances. This is how this works. What you think about and dwell on becomes your reality.

Before I did the writing thing, I sold a lot of stuff. I wanted to get rid of everything that could be a distraction. I said, “I’m going to dedicate my life to this for a year.”

That’s called having a goal. You’ve got to have some type of boundaries. If after a year this shit didn’t work, I was going to go back out there. It would have been hard because I’d put out a lot of my secrets. I would have been screwed.

I sat down and wrote eight or nine hours a day. I got headaches and my fingers cramped. I worked my ass off. I had a goal and knew it would not be an immediate success.

It’s a fact that most businesses take two to five years before they spin off a serious profit. Think big. Execute big. Plan big. Work big. If you do this, you will be successful. Stop looking for instant gratification. Have some courage.
