Today, on the AM Hustle, we’ve got all kinds of stuff going on. I’ve been interviewing people and I’ve got resumes on my desk. We’ll talk about starting a business online and offline and a lot of other things.
I’m going to share some stuff behind the scenes. The last few weeks have been crazy. I’m going to start with yesterday. We had a bunch of interviews set up. People just didn’t show up or cancelled at the last minute. Some people even tried to get their own appointment times. Like one applicant said, “I’ll just go in at 10.” I said, “No. No, you won’t.”
This is the truth about starting a business. So many people think they can be instantly successful. Yesterday, I think three people showed up. Today, I think we have nine interviews scheduled. We’ll see how many show up.
I have three training platforms using Thinkific. Business School for Hustlers isn’t working. I couldn’t add courses. We couldn’t add people. This has been going on for two weeks. I’m quite sure they’re going to fix it. In the meantime, it is really creating a lot of problems and I’m going to Teachable.
The camera pans across the new office. I keep saying that 90 % of the business is out here, not online. That’s why I got this office. I’ve got a client. This area is going to be for the client’s people. There’s going to be a customer service person there. There’s going to be a salesperson there.
This is going to be Mack Daddy Media. All of this is going to change. The reason I’m doing this stuff is there’s so much money out here.
If you watch this channel, you are going to make money, if you do the work. There’s too many examples of that. But, you’ve got to put in the work. That’s the thing. You’ve got to put in the work. People don’t want to put in the work.
Building these businesses online actually takes longer than building them out here in the physical world. And I can prove it to you. You can start a service business this week; cutting grass, painting, cleaning windows, taking care of kids, running errands, fixing stuff, and repairing iPhones. With the right marketing and hustle, you can really make a livable income or at least half the money you need to live in a few weeks or a month.
This channel, when I started it; it took four months of hard work to start making money. I had money in the bank. I didn’t have a car payment. I had the time. I wasn’t sleeping on someone’s sofa or anything like that. It still took me four months of 8, 12, 16-hour days to get to the point where I was making some money.
Now if you’ve got 100K in the bank and you want to come online and do some stuff, you blow up pretty quickly since you can afford paid traffic.
But if you are Broke Dick Danny and Penniless Priscilla and don’t have any money, it’s going to take a lot longer and be a lot harder.
With the online world, there are so many people that want your money. I’ve been straight up from the beginning. Hustler’s Kung Fu is about getting money. I want you to buy courses. I want you to be happy. And, yes. I am going to charge for that.
Let’s talk about hiring and putting together a team. It’s a process. The more carbon-based life forms you put into the mix; the more interesting things become, the more complex, and the harder they become.
Just so much change has happened and people are embracing the change. But, there are also a lot of other things that you should not embrace, like….
#1 – You are going to make $100,000 in six weeks. I’m going to tell you something. A lot of that shit is not going to work. Right now, I am helping a client do an ecommerce site. We’ve got a paid traffic guy. It’s going to take 60 to 90 days to dial in the keywords to test ads while spending a lot of fucking money.
When you tell someone about the expense, they don’t believe you. We’re talking about 30K or as much as 60K.
You have to test for every product in your ecommerce store. If you have 1000 items in your ecommerce store, you are going to do an ad test for each and every item. We have a person doing that full-time, and it’s going to take 60 to 90 days.
That’s the truth about starting a business.
If this shit was easy, everybody would be rich. Most of the people in this country are poor, or close to it. Thirty to forty percent of millennials still live with their parents. Seventy percent of the people in this country make less than 40K per year.
Yesterday I had to fire three people. The takeaway from that is Glendon does not know how to fucking hire anyone. I’ve hired five people and I’ve had to fire three. There’s something wrong. The new thing is: I’m not even in the first interview. I’ve got Valencia and my boy who is a consultant doing the interviews. I’m pulling myself out of the process because it’s been 10 years since I’ve had to hire people.
There’s a lot of people right now that have great ideas, great concepts. The reason their businesses aren’t working is because they refuse to see the blind spots.
I had this grand idea of having maybe three people work in my basement. People were like…”That’s Freddy Kreugerish. That’s Hannibal Lechterish. That’s crazy. Someone’s going to do something to me.”
With the three people I had to fire, they all worked from home. Everybody can’t work from home. I can do it. But, I’ve been doing it for a long time. Everybody can’t deal with that level of freedom or responsibility.
I am skewing older now. You can’t put that in the ads. All of the folks who have been working now, they’re older.
For the new folks that are coming in, there are set office hours. There will be different expectations. There are going to be goals.
Starting a business is getting harder. We are getting many entrepreneurs out of necessity.
